I have an idea for a treasure and wondered what the forum might think. The greatest desire, I believe, of quite a few people on this forum and many others is that someday the Treasures Series will spawn a release of the "Forbidden Classic" Song of the South. Heres a thought:

What if Disney were to release a Treasures titled "the Bobby Driscoll and Luana Patten Collection which would contain the film work of these two disney prodigys. The list could be quite extensive. For example.

1. Song of the South - in which both of them appear
2. So Dear to my Heart- Likewise both make an appearance
3. Melody Time- The Pecos Bill Segment that was so heinously edited could be presented intact.
4. Mickey and the Beanstalk- I know it will be on the upcoming Mickey treasure but Disney has no problem with double dipping.
5. Treasure Island- An unlikely possibility but Driscoll is the star
6. Johnny Tremain and Follow Me Boys- Again unlikely for a treasures but still Luanna has roles in each
7. Disney could develop a retrospective on all the child stars that he fostered, from these two, to others such as Annette Funicello, Kurt Russel, or Brian Corcoran. There would be no need to go into Bobby Driscols unhappy adult life and ultimate end.

I could see this as a plausible method to release some of these thing s to the public. Song of the South could still be limited in its release and if it was an incredible seller, even Disney wouldn't miss the chance to collect more dough. One last note. It would be cool to see theatrical trailers for any or all of the feature releases mentioned.

What says you all?

Nice idea - but unfortunately I don´t think it will happen!
Song of the SOuth will maybe be in a future Treasure Tin, but I don´t think it will be together with any other feature lenght film.

While I don't think this particular one will happen, I would like to see Disney do more "theme" Treasures, rather than just 'Mickey' shorts etc.
The Frontlines one is approaching this, as is the Tomorrowland one.
As I have said before, a Christmas one would be good too.

Though following on from this suggestion, I do think a 'Disney Uncut' Treasure would be good, containing all the contraversial or edited toons from the years gone by. Song of the South, the package features, and anything else that has raised a few eyebrows.

Agreed! I would really, really love to see the original "From All of Us to All of You" show exactly as it was aired in 1958.

It looks like Disney wants to make a little of both every year.

In every year they have had both cartoon tins and documentary/feauture tins.

Actually, every year they have released:
one Mickey Mouse set (Living Color, Black and White, Living Color 2)
one set from another cartoon series (Silly Symphonies, Goofy, Donald)
one special theme set (Disneyland, behind the scenes, WWII)
and one set consisting of certain TV episodes (Davy Crockett, Tomorrowland)
Well, last year there were only 3 sets, excluding a TV series one.

I'm with Loomis on this one.

Love the "themed" Treasures idea (upcoming On the Front Lines, Tomorrowland, hopefully future Holiday Treasure set, etc.). I also think a single set containing those controversial pieces would be interesting to say the least. Hell, each piece could have an accompanying extra detailing the outrage it has caused

There was a rumour at one point that So Dear To My Heart was being held back in R1 so that it could be released in a twin-pack with Song of the South.

There may be no truth to this rumour though.

I saw part of this one the Jiminy Cricket's Christmas video. At least, I think it was. It featured a '50's looking Mickey, and was cropped in some places.

It can happen.Just go to Disney,and get the CEO,and start chewing him out,until he can be chewed no more.

I never knew the story about Bobby Driscoll until I saw your inference in the original post. I googled it and ready the story. How completely depressing.
