I was browsing the thread where everybody posts a picture of their DVD collections and realized that there was a significant difference between my own DVD's and a lot of other's.

When you buy a movie that's part of the Classics line in Denmark it comes with the Classic's number printed on the side of the DVD. The image below illustrates it, as it's somewhat difficult to justify just using words:



Do any other countries have this as well? And what do you think of the idea?

Personally I actually like it. Perhaps it's because I've never really thought of it being a special thing, but it make organizing a lot easier. And come on, it does look cool when you have a whole row with for example number 29-39 (the ones I'm currently focusing on).

Wow! It simply looks awesome. But on the other hand if you don't have all the classics and some are missing it'll always look kind of incomplete.
In Germany we don't hve the numbers n the back, but we also have the holograms.

In the UK the numbers are on the back, for example

Norway and Sweden have also the numbers.

Yeah, Finland has those numbers as well. I think the system works and helps one organize stuff, and it's nice to have the classics with the numbers in a row as you said.

I am surprised that Disney doesn't put them on in all regions. It makes a lot of people buy ones they may not necessarily buy as it annoys many people if you are missing a number. Like 1, 2, 3, 5, 6.

And it not only annoys them missing some but to add injury to insult many friends and relatives will drive you nuts saying "where is number 4?", "why didn't you get number 4?", "do you want me to watch out for it for you?", etc... LOL!

So it also makes business sense to number them.

I like the numbers on the spine, but I think I prefer them on the back. Probably because I'm used to it.

I like them. If I didn't have all of the classics, the numbers would give me an urge to go and buy the classics I'm missing from my collection.

Wow, that's one eyecatching collection of Disney DVD's. But you're right, it would need a pretty darn good collection to look decent. Even more so than the Scandinavian numbers on the side, this looks downright ridiculous if you're missing a single movie.

Anyway, it's cool to hear that the other northern countries of Europe have the same system. If nothing else, it means I can buy my DVD's there without it ruining my collection

Well, the Region 2 Disney DVDs I find in stores here in Malta are the UK versions (like ichabod's). If the Region 2 version of a Disney film has not been yet released, the stores get the Region 1 version.

As Cossage said, here in Finland we also have those numbers on the spine and I really think that this is very clever descision for both; Disney and the collectors. The golden line looks great and ties all classics together.

I would have collected these numbered editions, but when I realized I would miss out on most of the 2-disc editions and get full screen transfers for Sleeping Beauty and Atlantis, I dropped the idea quite fast. Now I only try to buy UK Editions as I find them to be the best quality-wise most of the time, and the only R1's I have are the 2-Disc Brother Bear and the Fantasia Anthology (DTS after all). I don't, however, buy the DVD's until a nice special edition is available, so there are still a lot of films I haven't gotten yet...
