from the front page;
Retailers have been told to expect four volumes of Walt Disney's True-Life Adventures on December 5th under the heading of Walt Disney Legacy Collection. With featured content ranging from 147 to over 200 minutes, each volume will be a two-disc set carrying a $32.99 suggested retail price, much like the annual Walt Disney Treasures. It is not yet clear if this means the expected Wave 6 Treasures are being delayed are if Buena Vista Home Entertainment is planning one mammoth release date on the first December of Tuesday, which is already supposed to bring the year's top-grossing film Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and two virtual board game DVDs. We hope to bring you more info soon.

I find it interesting that they come under the banner 'Walt Disney Legacy Collection' and not specifically just true life adventures collection. Could this mean that there could be some volumes which contain other material? Perhaps some of the live action shorts? We can but pray!

Hopefully next up will be the People and Places series. I've never seen them, but they look interesting.

So it looks like we will be getting all TLA features and shorts, Perri, plus segments from the Disneyland TV show about the series. I'm not quite sure what Emperor Penguins, Mysteries of the Deep, Nature's Strangest Creatures, and Islands of the Sea are. Anyone who knows more, please fill me in.

The shorts

Seal Island
Beaver Valley
Nature's Half Acre
Water Birds
Bear Country
Prowlers of the Everglades
Island of the Sea

Total 215 Minutes

Features

The African Lion (1955), Jungle Cat (1960), The Living Desert (1953), Secrets of Life (1956), The Vanishing Prairie (1954), and White Wilderness (1958)

True Life Fantasy Perri

I would assume the shorts are one and then the movies are one disc each, although it would mean I am missing a movie, or perhaps some bonus materials.

I'm thrilled that these True-Life Adventures are coming to DVD. I look forward to replacing my VHS of these wonderful nature films with DVD quality picture and sound.

I do hope this Dec 5th release doesn't delay the Walt Disney Treasures - as expensive as both releases will be - I want BOTH. I don't want the Treasures delayed.

BILL W, here's info on the following:

Emperor Penguins - 11 minute live-action short released 13 Oct 1955. It documents the life and habits of the Emperor Penguins.

Mysteries Of The Deep - 24 minute live-action short released 16 Dec 1959. It documents the strange underwater creatures who live among reefs.

Nature's Strangest Creatures - 16 minute live-action short released 19 Mar 1959. Australian wildlife is explored, including kangaroos and duck-billed platypus.

Islands Of The Sea - 28 minute live-action short released 16 Mar 1960. It documents wildlife of various island, including the Galapagos.

I have seen all of these and they are very well done. Hopefully all this will be released as planned.

Ooh, exciting!!!

The chances look good for Perri then. I've been really, really hoping for that one for years on end now. . . not only has their obviously been no DVD, but there was never a VHS release either (except in the UK).

Yes, hopefully the Treasures won't be delayed because of these releases..

Okay someone has to bring the subject up... I wonder if these releases will have tins or some other sort of elaborate packaging?.. It will be interesting too see!

Hopefully if either Walt Disney Treasures or Walt Disney Legacy Collection get delay it will be only for a month not like in 2003 when the WD Treasures were delayed until May.

Remeber also Animanicas Volume 2 and Pinky and the Brain Volume 2 come out on this day so maybe Warner Brothers might delay it a week it or move it up a week.

This is the second best news I've heard today.

(See: Off Topic Greenlight Post for First Best News)

Even if the Treasures are delayed, these are almost the next best thing. Given that many people would have liked to see the True Life Adventures in a tin, it almost seems fitting that they take up the date and day slot of the Treasures.

Given the lack of Treasures announcements, however, I do wonder if we will see them this year. They obviously don't need as much of a huge push, given they are a niche collector's item anyway, but it would be nice to know one way or another.

At any rate, this is indeed exciting news.

I am thinking that something is going to be delayed. In 2004 the Treasures were delayed it was due to overwhelming poularity and pre-ordering of "On the Front Lines", and the mass production of Pirates 1 and Finding Nemo.

This time we have 4 Treasures, 4 Legacy, Pirates 2, and 2 interactive games and Cars is just a few weeks before. It seems like too much to produce and too much for normal families to buy.

I am not normal and would buy everything on Dec. 5 but not many people would.

Hopefully, with the release of these, people(even Disney fans) will finally understand the lemmings joke in "Chicken Little" and even appreciate the fact Disney actually made fun of themselves, and considering this was not Disney at their brightest moment, how many other films has Disney made that put themselves in that light?

Sorry, off-topic.

You know, the animation I can take or leave - but the live action stuff reallhy rocks. I'll probably have to pick this up blind.

Oh, such wonderful news. Maybe the long drought for vintage Disney titles is finally over. I have been yearning to own these films for many, many years. And since most of the footage of these films originated on 16mm film, we don't have to worry about cropping issues. Full frame should be the correct presentation for all of them!

First of all, I have to say that this is amazing news! How exciting to get all of this content on DVD, especially all of the extra featurettes and tv episodes. I looked through Bill Cotter's great book and it looks like the episodes we're getting are all tied in to the TLA's. Many of them aired with one of the TLA short films. The comprehensive nature of this is absolutely AMAZING!

I hate to say anything negative about such great news, but has anyone figured out the logic of the volumes yet? The content is not arranged chronologically, and it isn't by type (short vs feature-length) either. The "theme" titles of each volume don't explain much either.

Even the bonus subjects don't make sense. For example, "Yellowstone Story", an episode about the making of Bear Country, doesn't appear on the same disk as Bear Country. And "Behind the True Life Cameras", which is about Secrets of Life, isn't on the same disk as Secrets of Life.

With Roy Disney being involved, I'm sure there is some logic to the discs, but I just can't see it yet. Does anyone else know more or have any guesses?

So I don't end on a negative note, let me say once more - WOW! :o What super news!

This is the most exciting Disney DVD news in a while, and together with the Treasures probably the only must-buy Disney titles this year (IMO).

ichabod, already in the existing listing are short subjects and a film that is not under the True Life Adventures banner, so I don´t think it´s strange that they have chosen another name for this collection - and, as well as you, I hope this will bring us other volumes as well, especially I wish for the People and Places to appear later, as Bill W does.
Great hopes for the future... :)
