"Material Girls' Unwatchable........

At least the clothes are nice, but that is all that can be said of the shrill, unwatchable "Material Girls" with sisters Hilary and Haylie Duff. Rated PG for rough language and rude humor, this movie is definitely one to miss. The promo says "A movie for moms to take daughters to see together!"

Don't believe it, this movie is shrill, whiny, and in my opinion is a movie that daughters should shoot moms for suggesting they go see it together. Now, don't get all up in arms because I said 'shoot', you all know what I mean. Angelica Huston can't save this movie from its total mediocrity about two daughters who take over the family's cosmetic empire when their father dies (and tell me please, what is so funny about someone dying, but they do play it for laughs in this movie).

This would have been the perfect movie for the Hilton Sisters to make, even they might be more watchable than the Duffs - I doubt it, but it is a thought.

Directed by Martha Coolidge, who brought us the 80's classics, "Valley Girl" and "Real Genius" , must have been wearing blindfolds and earmuffs when she made this film. She plays everyone to be so tone-deaf that even the music, which by the way is pretty good, can't make us forget how bad this movie really is.

I give this a strong D and that is because I have never seen a movie worth an F. This one is pretty close, though.

Wait...

You watched this? And nobody gave you money to do it?

Wow.

I was really afraid of that, but I knew it somehow. Martha Coolidge is such a smart woman, I don't know what in the living hell was going through her mind. Besides, she's used to working with actors who become famous, not ones that already are. Why in God's name did she make a movie with the Duff's?

Oh well, equally amazing female directors have made equally devastating mistakes before - Penelope Spheeris and Amy Heckerling, for example. Problem though, they didn't exactly bounce back from those. Yet.

Darn, I was kinda hoping this would be good because I really wanted to see it. I really like Haylie Duff even if I'm not a big fan of Hilary. I don't know, maybe I will end up liking it, wait was it as bad as Raise Your Voice? I think it will be a rental.

I can't stand The Duff's. First of all, would they even be famous if it weren't for Disney and ripping off The Go-Go's? The only song I know of theirs is a darn cover, and I am so sick of 80's cover songs. Who on Earth thinks The Duff's can do the Go-Go's, and Jessica and Nick do Berlin?

Or, Madonna, for that matter?! Their cover of "Material Girl" is HORRIBLE!

I cannot stand Hilary Duff! Her sisiter, well, is not all that better, she's getting worse.

Hilary Duff cannot seem to make a good movie. Its just too bad that she no longer has the ability to fool people into thinking that she's the nice girl. She was able to do it in Lizzie McGuire, but now, its just sad.

Maybe when this film makes under 20 mil, Hilary will realize that all of her fans are under 7 years old and decide to take a really really long break. But that's just wishful thinking.

Unwatchable? Oh, just looking at the top-billed stars told me that! It's inconceivable that Real Genius (one of my favorite movies) and this crap could have the same director. Why, Martha Coolidge, WHY?

That's one of the things I had in mind when I made that post. It is beyond infuriating. And the only reason these jackasses get away with it is because the young people today have no idea of anything from the past. No Sense of History

Well it looks like not even the teen girls couldn't help this movie do good, only made it to 9th place this weekend with an estimated $4,620,000. Sorry Duff sisters.

Anything with the Duffs is unwatchable.
