"Cars" Goof

Hi, I'm mentioning the following because no-one seems to have pointed it out yet.

When I watched "Cars", I noticed a major error, or at least what looked like a major error. After Lightning gets his new paint job and white-walled tyres and leaves Radiator Springs, he goes to race. When we arrive to that scene we find Lightning in his old paint and old tyres!

During the race, the commentator points out Lightning's white-walled tyres, but Lightning has no white-walled tyres at all!

After the race, in the scene when he's with Sally, Lightning is magically transformed back to his "new" paint, but WITHOUT the white-walled tyres.

What is this mess-up!? :o My brother (who was watching the movie with me) suggested that maybe the final racing scene had been finished in early production, and the idea of having Lightning with new paint came after. He continued that maybe Pixar didn't redo the final scene as a cost cutting measure. I replied that I highly doubted that, as Pixar are practically perfectionists who wouldn't dream of leaving a scene unfinished.

But how on earth could they have missed that!?

I actually noticed that too. I wasn't sure if it was SUPPOSED to be like that or not though.

Lightning had sticker ads on him so I assumed they had to repaint him or his sponsors would be angry.

Now the commentary was a mistake, but I vaguely remember the paint Radior Springs did and the "after the race" paint looks were different.

Hey I just checked rottentomatoes.com, and what I noticed is listed as a mistake:

MOVIE MISTAKES

Mistake #1
When Lightning McQueen is in Radiator Springs and he's trying to fix the road with Bessie the first time, a little bit of asphalt spurts on him and drops on his famous lightning bolt sticker. The size and position of the patch of asphalt changes throughout the movie until it gets washed off.

Mistake #2
During the very last race, Lightning McQueen gets next to the green car, and the reflection of that green car's chrome "C" emblem is seen on Lightning McQueen's hood. However, the C is facing the right way. Since the C is placed on the green car in the correct direction, the reflection on Lighting McQueen should be a mirror image.

Mistake #3
Stock cars always race with slick tires (no tread) and when you see the tires (on and off the cars) at the racetracks in the movie, they're slick. In Radiator Springs however, Lightning's wearing treaded tires, even though he went from the track to the trailer and from the trailer to Springs without a tire swap.

Mistake #4
When Lightning Mcqueen's body is redone in Radiator Springs, the change does stay when he is in the Piston Cup. However, after the Piston Cup, back in Radiator Springs, his body is the re-do, just with the Lightyear wheels instead of his redone ones.

Actually there's even a mistake in the description. It should say "When Lightning Mcqueen's body is redone in Radiator Springs, the change doesn't stay when he is in the Piston Cup."

How careless of Pixar. :x

I don't get the paint goof, but I understand the tires. They swaped his tires for racing tires. Nobody races on white walls. Plus tires get changed during the race, so it would make sense that he would not have white walls while racing. I don't remember very vividly since I saw this film almost 3 months ago and didn't notice the goof, but if there was any time between winning the race and Lightning seeing his friends, he could have had them changed back. If not, then that is a mistake. It would also make sense for them to at least slap the sponsors logos on, if not completely repaint him for the race, but it also makes no sense that his paint is different after the race. I can't wait for the DVD so I can see these flubs first hand.

Did'nt the commentator say that they "found him in radiator springs, with white wall tires of all things!" There would be nothing wrong with that statement.

this bugged me while watching the movie myself. I never could figure out if it was intended or not.

Yeah, I think that's right. Also, as was already said, McQueen wouldn't race with white-wall tires, and all the sponsors would want their stickers back on him, so he had to be repainted and get new tires. Plus, I think the scenes in Radiator Springs at the end of the movie were supposed to take place a little while after the race, so he probably just got repainted again, looking a little like his original Radiator Springs paint job, but also keeping his "95" and the advertisement stickers. So, I doubt any of it was a mistake. After all, if Mr. Incredible can get a new super-suit, then Lightning McQueen should be able to get repainted if he wants to.
