I hope this is the right place to put this conversation!
Disney DVD Australia is currently running a Customer Loyalty Program, where for every 6 DVD's you buy, you get a free Disney DVD. I've decided to choose out of Dumbo, or The Emperors New Groove, but I'm 50/50, and I don't know which one to choose.
Could anyone give me some advice, or your opinions on which one to get?

They are both really good. You can't really go wrong with either one you choose. I have them both and personally I would pick Dumbo.

If it's the Dumbo Big Top Edition, I think it's worth picking up as it's a recent release. However, make sure it's not the "60th Anniversary Edition"! If it is, flee it like the plague!

As with Emperor, you can't go wrong, whichever edition you opt for.

If it's the 2-disc TENG, definitely get that. More than likely, though, it's the single-disc, in which case I suggest getting the Dumbo BTE instead.

I would go with The Emperor's New Groove. I like the film and DVD (either edition) better.

Aaron, could it be that the Dumbo BTE is not called the "BTE" in Australia, where joshthesim26 lives?

Because if that's the case, how will he distinguish between the old edition (which might very well also have a different name there) and the new one?

I'm saying this, because in Europe, most editions in Region 2 have completely different names, sometimes even different cover art, than in Region 1.

The Platinum Editions are a perfect example. In European Region 2, the Platinum Editions are not called Platinum Editions, but simply "2-Disc Special Edition". However, their content is always very similar to the Region 1 Platinum Editions, although never identical. In the cases of "Bambi" and "Lady and the Tramp", even the cover art was different in Region 2.

The Gold Classic Collection doesn't exist in Region 2. Here they just have the banner of "Walt Disney Classics", and in most cases, better content then their Region 1 counterparts.

So what happens to Region 4 in Australia?

Oh, I wish they had something like this on in the UK, as it seems rather fun, even though that since I have most of what I consider the worthwhile Disney films on DVD, I'd end up buying needless sequels and kiddy discs.

Anyway, I have to go with the majority; get Dumbo. Whilst The Emperor's New Groove is a good movie, that elephant movie is just so much greater that you simply need to get it.

I'm for Dumbo too, it's just one you need to have in any Disney collection.

Ooooooh....this is a VERY tough call! Both are great, but you can't go wrong with a classic. I voted for Dumbo.

If you're looking for something heartwarming, go for Dumbo.

If you want side-splitting comedy, go for The Emperor's New Groove.

I voted for New Groove, but they are both great movies that excel in different areas.

See!!? They're completely different to the Region 1 and 2 editions!

And that Dumbo cover art is very similar to the "60th Anniversary Edition" in Region 1. What if it has the atrocious picture exhibited in that release?

I say go for ENG.

The picture been "restored" but what really has happen is it has
been made to look dim & matte looking, which makes it ugly and bland looking.

For example, the Pink Elephants look Pastel Grey/Pink rather than
Fluro Pink like they do on our version.

Plus they've dropped a few special features so they can chuck on more
games for the under 5's. And if you're not Under 5, then they're wasting space. My First Cirus is one of them. The kid wouldn't even know what Dumbo was if it hasn't even been to a Circus yet....

Our Dumbo verion seems to be alright...I think I might get T.E.N.G though, and just buy Dumbo.

The Platinums in Region 4 (Australia/NZ) have Masterpiece under the Walt Disney banner and we also have Walt Disney Family Collection, Collection and I believe Gold Collection. They recently changed Brother Bear from Classic to Gold Collection or Collection, but that was the only change.

Anyway, that's got nothing to do with this topic, I'd pick Dumbo.

Hi josh. I'd go with The Emperor's New Groove, personally, but Dumbo will always be a classic. That Baby Mine segment always makes me sad. What picture are you talking about? I own both versions of "Dumbo" and both have excellent transfers. Are you saying that the transfer is better in the BTE edition or what? What atrocious picture are you talking about?

really hard choice , if you want light hearted comedy choose Kuzco, if you want a cute classic go for dumbo
