As we all know, Alice and Pocahontas 2-disc special edition DVDs will be coming out in 2004. Both these films were among the choices in the "Buy 3, Get 1 Free" dvd offer last year.

This year, the "Buy 3, Get 1 Free" offer has Robin Hood and Hunchback as choices for the free dvd. It looks like they might be trying again to get rid of their batch of 1-disc Robin Hood and Hunchback DVDs in preparation for a possible 2-disc release of these movies in 2005.

This theory also makes sense because we are due for a re-release of Robin Hood and Hunchback with more extras. I would advise everyone who is planning to use the "Buy 3, Get 1 Free" offer to get the Ichabod & Mr. Toad DVD (which will NEVER be released as a 2-disc due to popularity reasons and so is probably a definitive version) or to get one of the live action movies.

it would be great, but i doubt it....Hunchback was just released a year and a half ago, and Robin Hood is not necesarily a film that everyone's crazy to buy in a special edition, thought I loved them both, and a Hunchback SE would be just great!, they'll end up releasing it someday (haha someday!).

maybe the most probable SE to be next are Mulan and Hercules (but hercules golden collection edition it's still available) Mulan more than any other, cause a sequel will be out sometime next year.

Unfortunately I don't see Robin Hood coming in a 2-disc special edition...

Gee! I would prefer The rescuers or even The Fox and the Hund on Special Edition rather than Robin Hood and The Hunchback of Notre Dame...

I think a Hunchback SE is VERY likely. The fact that it came out a year and a half ago doesn't matter; Lilo and Stitch came out a year ago and it's going SE. Plus, Disney posted specs for a Hunchback SE on their official site but took it down after an hour. I'm 90% sure Hunchback will be one of the 2005 SE's.

Robin Hood is less likely because, since Robin was never a bonus material-packed laserdisc, finding materials to put on disc 2 would be a bit hard. I think either Hercules or Mulan will go SE in 2005 along with Hunchback.

Am I the only one who loves Robin Hood? It may not be the best animated movie ever, but it's a great little film with a lot of wit.

Of course not, I love Robin Hood, I ordered it from Disney Movie Club as a free DVD, its a must have for me.

well there might be a Hunchback 2-disc Special Edition since Disney does release a movie two times until the next 7 years. i remember the Great Mouse Detective coming out in Aug. 1999 and then again in July 2001. so Disney may release Hunchback 2-disc Special Edition even though it will lack in special features.

My guess would be that the 2005 SEs will include The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Mulan, and Hercules as well as a repackaged reissue of the Tarzan CE.

It WON'T lack in special features. "The Hunchback" was released on a Collector's Edition LD some time ago, and it was jam-packed. So, it's safe to assume that Disney will tranfer them to DVD. The same goes to the South American films... I hope!

yep, you´re right!! I´m so hopping they release it then , this movie is in my top 5.

yes, many of us looooove Robin Hood, and a SE would be heaven, but the fact is that they´re honestly not going to release a 2 disc edition of any 70-80´s classic. (uuups!!! ok, let´s just say the rescuers is te exception , the little mermaid does´t count )

Why does it seem like disney always comes out with 2-disc sets for the dvds that I already purchased? I mean first alice in wonderland, and probably in the next couple of years robin hood, mulan and hercules? Should I just stop buying these one disc sets and wait for the 2 disc sets??

It's never really knocked my socks off, but it's not a bad liitle film.
It is one, however, that if it does get the SE treatment I probably would *not* repurchase.

I wish both titles, and actually every Disney animated film, went to SE. But these 2: Robin and Huchback, unfortunately I don't think so...

I think it's wsome that they're making SE's of these flicks... i personally love them and always happy to get more info and more special and cool things bout them. so there.

I can see Hunchback actually being Platinum-but with a lot of fluffy extras like Topsy Turvy Games and a virtual tour of Paris, the Court of Miracles etc.

But, if this is released as a SE, can you actually see Hunchback 2 being re-released?

By the time Disney starts releasing HD-DVDs, I think this is going to be the ultimate list of Disney Special/Collector's/Platinum/Masterpiece edtions on DVD (or at least it is going to be similar):

actually the more i think about it i think a mulan 2-disc is likely for 2005 because i remember reading somewhere that they were working on a mulan direct to video sequel (mulan 2) and it makes sense that they would re-release the original in conjunction with the new sequel.

i wonder if it is even possible for future re-releases to be "digitally restored". someone mentioned tarzan in one of the posts and i can't imagine it getting better than it's already pristine digital quality and packed 2 disc of extras.

maybe it is better off not knowing and not guessing when re-releases are going to happen cause then we can be pleasantly surprised when we hear that they will be released.

I think the next time we see snow white is in HD-DVD. But I think it will be a while, maybe a long while before we see Disney start migrating to HD-DVD. They are one who doesn't jump right away.

Joe meant that by the time Disney switch to HD-DVD, all the films he listed will have been multi-disc sets, not that they'll all be re-released again before HD-DVD.
