I still feel yucky about the ride being changed. I mean, the parts with Jack Sparrow aren't so bad, seeing as he's just thrown in here and there and a lot of changes haven't been made to the surroundings, but the addition of the Davy Jones head and the complete change of the ship in the beginning bother me quite a bit. I don't know. It's not that I have a problem with change in general, but the ride was pretty flawless as it was. Sure, it might increase in popularity for a while now, but was it ever not a popular ride?

Nonetheless, thanks for posting, enigmawing! It's nice to get an idea of what to expect.

I was talking about the Pirates of the Caribbean movie at a forum (one that centers around cartoons) and found that several of the members didn't even know the ride existed, let alone was the inspiration for the film.

I've only been on the ride about 5 times myself, so I'm afraid that I won't be as eagle-eyed as some when it comes to spotting the changes made. I'm <i>really</i> looking forward to my next visit though. . . I imagine I'll be darting straight for it once I get past the gate. I actually wondered when I rode on it last fall if they'd ever adapt any of it due to the popularity of the film.

Now granted, I may be a bit biased because I love the movie, but I think it's a much more welcome change than altering certain figures of the ride for the sake of being politically correct (as they have done in the past). I do understand why you feel yucky about though, pinkrenata. It's been a Disneyland staple for decades now. . . I mean, my parents rode on it years before I was even born. Still, I guess everything will go through updates if it's around long enough, even things touched by the hand of Walt.

I rode on it 6 or 7 times in November when I went to DL. I found the line was short during the fireworks and it was a great way to rest my feet after a long day of walking.

Wow, that Jack Sparrow animatronic looks (and moves) incredibley real! However, I don't think the Barbossa animatronic looks a whole lot like Geoffrey Rush, but its good enough to pass.

That was AWESOME!

Even Johnny was impressed! However, did he voice his animatronic? From the sounds of it, he didn't, but I just want to make sure.

I can't WAIT to ride this when I go to Disneyland this August.

All three actors from the movie lent their voices to the attraction.

By the time the 3rd movie comes out, so said a Disney Exec in an interview, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightly will also be in the ride.

Ah I love it! It makes me miss the ride and Disneyland really bad. It's the only ride that every time I go on it, the line is either non exsistent or goes very fast. I just hope they didnt lose the drop in the beginning.

AHHHHHHh I scrolled really quickly past Fidget1234'sa pics because I wanted to be surprised, lol because the NJ Trilogy (fyi jic, to newbies: Jane Mccoy, Escapay, and Kram Nebuer here on UD) is going to try to be there - scratch that...WILL BE THERE no matter what or we'll be angry - for the official reopening of the Pirates of the Caribbean Attraction next week, July 7th, the day the movie comes out. Wish us luck and I'll return with pictures!! Ooooooh We can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! That makes me sad. They're probably the same types of people who went to the parks and complained that they didn't see the movie characters in the ride, which prompted for such a renovation, which hopefully will be a good one.

someone sent me the pix on myspace...not sure where they got those from- prob from that site.

I think it's really cool how they're making it more like the movie. And its cool they are adding the villains from both the movies. So its based on just one of the movies. I liked how Johnny was saying how real it was.

Kram did you make it? I was at Disneyland yesterday (June 30th, Friday) with a friend of mine who is a HUGE POTC fan; she was fine with the changes to the ride but you do kind of wonder if when the POTC trilogy is gone and forgotten if the ride will seem "dated" by the changes or perhaps people won't know who the added characters are. I think the Davey Jones waterfall is being well received. Be sure to go to the Disney gallery (2nd floor, over the ride) and see the artwork from the film and this dramatic chair that supposedly appears in the movie and there are some costumes in cases, presumably from the movie but there are strangely no labels saying what they are. It was hot and crowded and the last thing you want to do is find yourself standing in an hour line for POTC where the buildings and the line enclosures seem to block any breeze.

The park opened at 8am and my friends ran to the ride and got on immediately and then immediately reboarded to ride a 2nd time, and by the time they got off the 2nd time, they said the line was really too long to bother with. But stories about the line stretching to Thunder Mountain or out to Main Street - did not materialize.

OH and the Columbia is sailing. Many of you might remember that the Columbia (old tall ship that some think of as a "pirate" ship) there and circles Mark Twain island is sailing again and this was probably the first time I've gotten to ride it for years. They fire off the cannon too. I had a great time but I can't stand it when it gets this hot! I don't know if I am going to go any more this summer due to the heat. I've gone in August and it is just misery with the heat and long long lines. Bring a water bottle - I must have refilled mine about 8 times!

Well, Kram doesn't have internet access on the road back to NJ, so I'll do a mini-report.

Friday was the big Official opening, and there wasn't much fanfare for it, just a ribbon cutting. Depp had gone to California to be there for THEIR opening. Not that I'm bitter or anything. After all, Disneyland does have the original.

Anyways, we went, there was an hourlong wait or so, and it stayed that way the rest of the day. The park was at its regular crowd size (for a July day, at least). Today, I was checking out the line for Pirates, and it's at its normal 20-or-less minute wait now, so it seems to be back to its "ride it if you know it's there" stage again.

The Jack Sparrow show is kickass, though, and they've got some real convincing castmembers who play Jack.
