Seeing mine on Sunday afternoon.

Saturday night has pretty much sold out at my local cinemaplex, and I missed out largely due to my foolish procrastination.

Now that I CAN'T see it when I want to, months of apathy have turned into anticipation. I am a card-carrying DC Fanboy after all.

Just returned a little while ago from a special midnight showing of Superman Returns and all I can say right now is WOW!!!!!

Bryan Singer has done a remarkable job with the telling of this story. It is five years after Superman II, and Superman has gone off to find out more about his home planet of Krypton, They use a lot of stuff from the first Superman movie, things with Marlon Brando, and Glenn Ford and such, but not to the point of it just being a rehash.

Special effects in this film are first rate, and you will believe that a man can fly. I will give this film a full five star rating just for its entertainment value. I will also give it a strong A because it makes you want to see it again.

Kevin Spacey is perfect as Lex Luthor and Kate Bosworth is wonderful as Lois Lane, who has moved on with her life and has a little boy with her boyfriend.

Don't want to spoil any of it for you, but it is definitely going to make a lot of money for Warner Bros. this summer.

I saw it at an early screening the other day. It was a very good movie, and I'm still thinking about it now.....which is a sign that the movie was good....it stays with you. However, the ending was a little disjointed. I would give it a B+ but totally recommend it more than most other movies so far this year (with the exception of maybe "Cars").

It had the feel of a true sequel to the 70s version rather than a reimagining. It had a nice balance of contemporization, but complete respect for the original. It integrated more seemlessly than I could have imagined.

SPOILER WARNING!!!

invisitext below:

I wasn't all up with the whole, Superman's kid thing. Also, did anyone else get any religious connotations (Jor-El talks about giving his only son to the world, and Lois Lane talks about how the world doesn't need a savior.......not to mention the "resurrection" or christlike poses Superman makes in space).

Wow. Every single review I've read for this has been amazingly good. I didn't expect much from this movie - so this is a major surprise for me.

We are going to see it on Sunday afternoon.

Is anybody else worried about the fate of Pirates next weekend? What if Superman's second week totals beat out Pirates? I'm sort of nervous now.

I saw the 10 PM screening last night, and it was truly amazing! Bryan Singer respected, honored, and referenced what had gone before, but he also gave us a compelling, original Superman story.

Routh was a great choice for Superman. He was definitely channeling Christopher Reeve in this movie. Luthor was both chilling and comedic, and Jimmy Olsen stole whatever scenes he was in.

I agree that the ending felt a little off, going from the emotional scene to a triumphant flight through space. Other than that, it was absolutely fantastic. Five stars!

Saw the 3:30 today to a fairly empty theater. Maybe 30 people at the most.

Anyway GREAT movie. I loved all the references to the older movies.

Tell you the truth I didn't really enjoy Superman Returns it reminds of Superman and Superman 2....not really a update on the movie.
I wanted to see more action in the movie and less talking and too romantic.
But Kevin Spacey did a really good job on Lex character.
I thought Smallville (the TV series) was way better then Superman Returns. I know there are Superman Fans but this movie was superdull.
I would pay to watch the Spider-Man 3 trailer again.

I give it 8/10...while my friends gave it 7/10.

I already know this years winner for summer POTC: DMC!!!!

I just came back from seeing it and I agree with DVD Junkie's rating of an A. It was kind of a wierd choice for Lois Lane... maybe I am just used to Teri Hatcher.

Yes, I did! I don't know if they were intentional, but I loved them either way.

Anyway, I absolutely loved the movie. I expected it to be good, but not that good. The first half hour or so was a little slow, but necessary to get us back on track after the first two. I thought Brandon Routh looked personality-less in the trailers, but he actually showed some great charisma in the film. I wasn't too wild about Kate Bosworth as Lois, though. Maybe it's because of how the character was written, but I kept wanting to slap her time and time again. By far the film's best performance was Kevin Spacey. He's able to balance both the humorous and deadly sides of Lex perfectly. The effects in the film were top notch, and I was grateful that most shots of Superman flying were of Brandon against a green screen as opposed to a CG double. This is the second best film of the year so far after Cars. The only other film that can give Superman a run for its money is Pirates, but even so, it would still be at a fantastically respectable 3rd place. Bring on the sequel!

Just got back from seeing it... loved it, loved it, loved it. SO good. For some reason, I wasn't expecting it to be. The teaser was unappealing, reviews have been mixed, and I long ago fell out of the Superman phase that I was once in (he was never my favorite hero, but I've always liked him and been well-versed enough).

I wish I would have re-watched the first two Reeves movies first (it's been many years), because this does a very good job with picking up as a sequel, if I recall. Kevin Spacey blew me away... I couldn't see him as Lex, but he proved me wrong. In fact, everyone did. I even loved Lois, though many seem not to have.

SPOILERS BELOW

Lois aside, I've heard three main criticisms about the movie- (A) it's too slow.... on the contrary, it flew by for me and I couldn't believe it was over by the end (B) it's anti-American... well I didn't like the omission of "and the American way" one bit, but that was all I saw to this end (C) Superman is portrayed as effeminate and gay... ummm what?? I don't know how anyone got that out of the movie :?

Also, I may be flamed for this, but I thought the stuff with his son was brilliant. (Admittedly, Loomis, I've never read more than one or two Superman comics). I also loved that there was a modest amount of camp in the movie... the darker superhero movies will always be the most endearing to me, but I love that we still have room for a little classic superhero camp in today's must-be-edgy comic cinema.

Overall, at least a 9 out of 10 and maybe my favorite of this year thus far.
