Hairspray

I just heard it off of the news, and I guess it's good for him. I find some kind of vocal talent, and I believe that he could go far.

Actually it's the movie adaptation of Hairspray that he's going to be in -- http://comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=15131 -- but close enough. Assuming he has a singing role (I've never seen Hairspray or heard its soundtrack, so I know nothing about it), will they be dubbing his voice in whole or in part again? Or can he actually sing really well and Disney decided to use partial dubbing in HSM anyways?

I don't know, the news didn't say. It just said that Zac Efron was to be the starring role in the broadway adaptation* of Hairspray

* I got it right this time!

from what i've heard, he does have a singing role and in HSM his voice was blended with Drew Seely's. but Zac Efron has assured interviewers and fans that he plans to do all his singing by himself for this movie

For those who are geeky as I am and really anticipating the movie this July, here's a reminder to check out Oprah tomorrow. John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken and Queen Latifah will be guests. Plus live performances by Nikki Blonsky singing Good Morning Baltimore, Zac Efron singing Ladie's Choice and Elijah Kelly singing Run and Tell That!

I had actually never heard of Hairspray until one of the songs was used on So You Think You Can Dance. After watching the preview for tomorrow's episode I can't wait for the movie to come out (even if Zac Efron is in it) :D

I'm DVRing it at 4:00. Even though I'm going to be at my house, I'll be too busy watching Judge Judy.

It sounds very good. I wonder if Travolta will say something about him playing Tracy's mother. It's sure to be very enlightening.

WOW!! After watching today's Oprah, I am convinced that Hairspray is going to be a big smash hit. It was so exciting to see clips from the movie that weren't included in the trailer.

Sidenotes: I think Michelle Pfeiffer should never be allowed to speak in public. She said the word "um" literally over 30 times in a 7 minute interview. What an airhead. Also annoying was everytime Oprah mentioned John Travolta's name is was always preceded with "my friend". Gosh - we know that you claim he's your friend. Get over it Oprah, no one cares!

Thanks for notifying of this. I DVR'd it but haven't watched it yet. I never watch "Oprah", so I wouldn't have caught it otherwise.

Awesome! The Last Mimzy interested me but it's not something I had planned on buying. Now I'll probably end up getting it along with the movie cash and the bonus disc. At the very least, I'll get something at Circuit City to get the free disc.

Thanks for posting! Anthony's gonna love this.

Ooooooh! I really want that disc, but I can't get it. The Circuit City closest to me has gone out of business, and I don't know where another is. Do you think it might be possible that when the DVD comes out it would be attached to maybe Best Buys DVDs or Targets? Grr, I really wanted it, and the movie cash something I want to, I really want to see this movie after falling in love with the stage play (even though I haven't seen it. Can you be in love with something you've never seen? Except on Youtube :D).

Hairspray Movie Soundtrack
I guess this means that the movie soundtrack will be out, and I'll be able to purchase that. Or it could be the soundtrack for the previous movie. Hmm, I wonder....

Added (again):

I'll actually be in Flordia when all of this happens. I've never really bought anything for myself out of Ohio, and I didn't know, but, this is throughout the US, right?

Good Morning, UD!!!!

While appearing on the MuchMusic channel on Monday, Zac Efron and Nikki Blonski, stars of the upcoming musical, Hairspray, were dared to lock lips. Here are the results:

Anywho, I got to see the movie last night in an advanced screening, and I must say, it was a lot of fun! Me, being the musical whore that I am, was gonna see this no matter what. Before I saw it, I was kinda iffy about it, but now that I've seen it, I can say it went above and beyond my expectations. I'm sure the rest of you will enjoy it!!

I don't know if there are any other threads about Hairspray...

But this is a remake (somewhat) of the 1988 film. I know the whole thing changed for the musical productions... but does anyone have any thoughts about the original film? Anyone seen it? Anyone have anything to say about the difference between both?
