Was there one for films like aladdin? little mermaid? was there ever a SE for such films or will the PE start from scratch with extras? please let me know, thanks

By "Hondame," I assume you mean The Hunchback of Notre Dame. To add to your list, Pocahontas, Toy Story, and The Nightmare Before Christmas all come to mind. There are TWO versions of TNBC -- the first-run sets (of which, I have a copy) has the Henry Selick short, "Slow Bob in the Lower Dimensions." The later pressings have this short deleted.

There IS a Japanese Aladdin Box Set (PILA-1279) with lots of extras. The TLM LD is pretty much bare bones, except that the CAV TLM LD has a little "making of" documentary.

AFAIK, Aladdin has NEVER been released on DVD (SE or otherwise). TLM was released as a Limited Edition, but is really a bare bones disc (non-anamorphic) with an okay transfer and no extras.

My guess is that they will port some/most of the extras of the Aladdin Japanese Box Set over to the PE DVD. Since I have seen only the "making of" documentary for TLM, I guess that they pretty much have to start from scratch on this title.

I'm very new to laser discs, so forgive me for not knowing this, but if I were able to locate the Aladdin box set (it's my favorite Disney movie), would I be able to play the Japanese LD on my US player? Thanks for your help!

Thanks for the info! Now to look around the Net for some Japanese laserdisc stores. And oh how I wish DVDs would lack that annoying lock-out feature.

Yes.

LD players and discs are not region-coded. All you need is an LD to be NTSC (the abbreviation stands for "Not The Same Color" -- the standard in both the U.S. and Japan), and it is playable on your American player.

i'm fresh to the board so forgive me if there is a thread that better suit this post, but i recently picked up the fantasia anthology and on fantasia i noticed some pannig and cropping durring one of the segments and come to find out they chopped out the black horse girls as not to seem racist. question: is the laserdic release the same? the is a ld set at the corner and i would go buy it if it is unedited.

The LD is still edited during the Pastoral Symphony, but it at least has the original Deems Taylor dialog during the interstitials.

From my fuzzy memory, the main differences during the Pastoral Symphony are:

1. The DVD -- shows Bacchus stumbling up the stairs being pulled by... nothing. In other words, the black-faced centaurs have been digitally removed. Also, there were a few ultra close-ups to remove the offensive picanniny centaurettes.

2. The LD -- shows Bacchus stumbling up the stairs being pulled by something that is off-screen to the right. Also, instead of zooming up on one of the scenes with the picaninny centaurette servant now out of the picture, they show a repeat scene from a few seconds before that has been reversed (so it looks different).
