Just a short FYI on the disney titles from Anchor Bay are going to be re-licened to MGM and they are supposed to be able to include more extras than the AB ones did. I think the deal starts in 2004.

What a Horrible idea! I don't have a single MGM disc in my collection, and I think most, but not all of MGM discs are worse than Disney's barebones releases.

MGM have been putting out some steller "Special Editions" over the past 2 - 3 years. They've really turned their business around since all the early releases resulted in so many complaints.

MGM will do wonderful Disney discs (of course, Anchor Bay did do wonderful Disney discs in the first place and should never have lost their licence, but that's another issue)

Oooooh, I really hope Return to Oz gets a nice SE treatment from MGM since the only features the AB one had were an intro and interview with Fairuza Balk.

i agree with joshue early MGM DVDs were as barebone as disney's. but the last 2 years they have turned around starting this this year i've seen alot of 2 disc or flippers special editions of their older and newer movies. i hope they keep up the good work!

My copy of Return to Oz doesn't say any region. Not on the cover, not the disc art. How odd... :?

what's the deal with anchor bay losing their license? i never understood why disney would want any of their movies to be distributed out of house....this was a lesson walt learned years ago when distributing his cartoons and stuff under a different label (the oswald and alice years) i thought for sure disney would want to rerelease these anchor bay titles after the popularity they received. so if anyone knows the whole story, please post or email me. i'm extremely interested.

please note: the watcher in the woods (special edition), happiest millionaire (roadshow edition), and black hole (original release widescreen)dvds from anchor bay are worth getting. fantastically restored and the watcher has many more bonuses than most live action disney releases put together (excluding the vault disney and special edition lines).

No, it's not, unfortunately it's only region 1. I've just tried it out.
(if you still need the information  )

No, Mgm WILL NOT distribute Disney movies like Anchor Bay did. They will just distribute some titles Disney get the rights like Prizzi's honor for exemple.
So Return to Oz could, at least, become a real Disney dvd. Let's hope soon.
