I guess this would be a good "official" thread with forthcoming news to keep the handful of fans here updated, since I frequent this board. Her official site, www.christinaaguilera.com has posted this today:
Christina Aguilera Goes Back To Basics, New Album Due August 15th

Paying tribute to the music that inspired her, pop icon Christina Aguilera will release her third studio album, Back To Basics, August 15th on RCA Records. A modern take on vintage jazz, soul and blues from the 1920s, ‘30s and ‘40s, the album is wildly inventive with a throwback style creating a sound that’s gritty and raw. Back To Basics reunites her with producer Linda Perry as well as creating new collaborations with producers such as DJ Premier.

The sexy first single, “Ain’t No Other Man,” produced by DJ Premier and Charles Roane, is set for release on June 12th. It will be world-premiered on the MTV Movie Awards on June 8th.

“This is a concept album that follows a bold, set vision,” stated Aguilera. “The touchstones are Billie Holiday, Otis Redding, Etta James and Ella Fitzgerald.... what I used to call my ‘fun music’ when I was a little girl.”

Back To Basics utilizes an orchestra, choir, string quartet and jazz horns, as well as techniques that offer a vintage sound and sensibility. “I Got Trouble” incorporates a scratchy blues feel, while “Candy Man” recalls the tight harmonies of all-girl groups from the ‘30s and ‘40s “Save Me From Myself” is an emotionally naked, raw-sounding song dedicated to her husband. “Thank You,” dedicated to her fans, features DJ Premier splicing bits of “Genie In A Bottle” with fan voicemail messages. Also sure to appeal to Aguilera fans is the risqué song “Nasty Naughty Boy” (which has a ‘20s burlesque feel) and the club track “Still Dirrty,” assuring her fans that she’s “still got the nasty in me, …still got that dirty degree…still got that freak in me.”

She wrapped up the filming of her first video, "Ain't No Other Man" on May 3rd, so now it should be in the editing process. It's a smoky jazz bar video with 1930s fashion.

I'm pretty sure this will be a successful album. She's very confident, saying this is her best work yet. She said in an interview recently the album will have 23 tracks.

I heard clips of Candyman, Ain't No Other Man, and Back to Basics. I love Candyman the best; it's like catchy 1950s sugary bubblegum pop. I've been addicted to the clip since MTV played it in late February. ANOM is a fast track with crazy beats and big bandish horns (it *doesn't* sound anything like Beyonce's Crazy In Love, though). Back to Basics, from what I heard, sounds like the first track- the intro to the album. It's slow and mellow with the lyrics, "going back to basics. Where it all began..."

I'm excited, I really like Christina Aguilera. She's one of the pop singers out there that has a really good voice. I hope she keeps focus on that.

^ She will. She has a song with layered strings and just her voice, often described as The Beatles' Eleanor Rigby-esque. And anyway, her voice completely fits in with the jazz/blues/soul genre. It's some of the best types of music.

I don't mind her as sexy but i dont like her slutty and "dirty" persona, I know she changed i to a "cleaner" image but i hope she dosent go back to that old look.

That Christina butchered Reflection in Disney's Mulan. But I agree that she has a uhhm...nice voice. So, she's back, eh?

Hmm. Reflection actually has one of my favorite vocals from Christina.

A lot of people hate her for her Dirrty video from several years back. She's strongly against double standards and that was one of the main points of the video, and when she explained that over and over, people just weren't hearing her. Can't Hold Us Down, from her previous album, was all about that, and was even a single, yet even MTV censored the video because of a certain gesture she does in it but they didn't censor any of the gestures the guys did. She expresses her views a lot in videos and music (the Beautiful video, as another example) but people always miss the point.

She's not letting go of her dirrty image 100%, but she said she's toning it down because she's now married to Jordan Bratman and her new music is more happy as opposed to being on a darker side like on Stripped.

This sounds very promising. Christina's voice is indeed perfectly suited for this kind of music, and I hope the production is as bold as <i>Stripped</i>'s was. I was worried that Christina might take the Mariah Carey route of a few years ago, but this is a step in the opposite (and wiser) direction from the sound of it.

I was never very interested in these pop girls. But, Christina has the best voice, the clearest idea of what her music should be interpreted as, and is the most level-headed. I just hope she stays out of the tabloids and doesn't get pregnant, have a reality TV show, or get in a "scandal."

NEWSFLASH!

Christina's record label has changed the official radio release date from June 12 to NOW, because her first single, "Ain't No Other Man," has leaked on the internet last night (6/1/06) and it wasn't supposed to be out yet. (rumor has it that they are trying to find the person who took the only studio copy. So somebody is probably going to get into trouble).

When the song leaked last night it spread like wildfire, and radio DJs from everywhere have downloaded it since and many stations are playing it already (including Southern CA, Vancouver, London, etc).

Obviously I can't post a link to the mp3, but it should be really easy to find. The song is getting mostly positive reviews from everyone who heard it, especially surprising from people who usually criticize Christina. :o

The song is fast and is a blend of soul, jazz, and modern hip hop. Her voice is on fire! Here's the cover of the single-

:o Christina Makes Her Comeback Twice As Nice By Expanding Basics Into Double LP :o
06.06.2006 6:00 AM EDT

Follow-up to Stripped, nearly four years in the making, due August 15.

CULVER CITY, California — After telling GQ last month that she had recorded enough material for a double album but had narrowed it down to one to make it more affordable, Christina Aguilera has apparently had a change of heart.

At Saturday's MTV Movie Awards, where Aguilera performed her new single, the singer revealed that Back to Basics would in fact include two distinct discs.

"The first half is based upon working with more beat-driven producers and will use samples and things like that, and then the second disc is all me and Linda Perry," Aguilera said, referring to her "Beautiful" collaborator.

A common theme, however, will run through both discs: an homage to Aguilera's favorites eras, the 1920s, '30s and '40s (see "Christina Aguilera's New LP: Some Jazz, Some Hip-Hop Soul ... And Some Burlesque").

"The first half of the album is kind of a throwback with elements of jazz, blues and soul music combined with a modern-day twist, like hard-hitting beats," the singer explained.

And for the second disc, "We creatively went into our own zone and our own world together," Aguilera said of her work with Perry. "There are no cover songs, so we made more of a '20s, '30s vibe with an authentic and organic twist. There are no samples — it's all live music. One of the songs sounds like you entered a 1920s burlesque club, another song sounds like it was actually recorded in the 1920s, using a vintage microphone, so it's exciting stuff."

The double-album is due August 15, nearly four years after Aguilera's last LP, Stripped.

"I definitely take my time, so I do come with a lot more to say about what's going on in my life so it's meaningful to me and to my fans," Aguilera explained of the gap. "I always try to come back with something new and try to evolve as an artist and as a visionary. I can't wait to see the reaction."

Seeing that reaction is exactly the reason Aguilera wanted to debut her new single, "Ain't No Other Man," at the MTV Movie Awards (see "MTV Movie Awards: Will Ferrell Freaks Out; Jessica Simpson Dusts Off Daisy Dukes"). "The last time I performed at a Movie Awards show was for 'Lady Marmalade,' and that was so much fun," she said.

As for the new song, "I wanted to make it light and easy for people to dance to and sing along to, so the whole song is based on feel-good elements of soul and blues and jazz," she said. "Lyrically, I just got married, so it's about someone in particular, but it's all about feeling good and not taking anything too seriously."

"Ain't No Other Man," like most of Back to Basics' first side, was produced by DJ Premier (see "Christina's New Split-Personality Album Is Mature And 'Dirrty' ").

"On the Gang Starr albums he would take jazz things and chop them up and he had some jazz elements in his beats. Along with being a fan of his, I thought he would really get into this world I had envisioned, with the throwback album meeting the hard-hitting beats of today," Aguilera said. "He went there and totally blew my mind. He got it, and some producers didn't get it. And he goes beyond being just a beatmaker. He has a great ear for what sounds good vocally and what a sloppy ad-lib is."

Aguilera says she would someday like to make a straight jazz record, but for now, she's thrilled with Back to Basics.

"It was quite a journey making this record [and turning to] the old glam look visually to go along with all that," she said. "But what we came up with, I'm super-proud of."

At first I didn't like her new song but it really has grown on me fast. I hope it's a good video. It'll probably be similar to the video she did with Nelly for Tilt Ya Head Back if she sticks with a retro theme for the video too. Same kinda tone and setting.

I really like her new single. I'm not sure if it's a good choice for a first single, though.

And I actually do like Britney Spears better. :P

 @ nordic. In reality (well, I'm speaking for the majority's opinion, including my own), her first singles are not necessarily the best track on the album. In this case, "Ain't No Other Man" may not be the best track but it is getting heavy radio airplay especially in large cities. Some other radio stations still have yet to play it, it's still new. Hopefully it peaks at #1, or at least top 5. Not only it's what she needs since "Dirrty" flopped in 2002, but it's also what radio needs in the top 40 (crap city!).

More news- tomorrow is the MTV Movie Awards. Sorry it's such a lame award show to sit through, I know, but Christina choose to debut her single by performing it there (maybe because they rerun the show a lot). Also, reportedly on June 14 is the Making The Video for this first single and the video will debut then! I'm not sure what the time is, but I think it's 7pm EST.
