How Long before DVDs become SlipCover-less...?

I know after being on the market for a while, Disney stops putting slip covers on the DVDs that have them. Does anyone know how long before they do this? I want to buy Mulan, but I'm not ready to right now, but I'm afraid if I wait too long, it won't have the coveted slipcover.

It probably takes two years for every single slipcover to disappear off of a certain DVD.

I would say if you start seeing slipcover-less versions, you'd better find a version with the slipcover immediately.

I noticed that the week of release, or the week thereafter, there were some copies of one of the Studio Ghibli titles at Best Buy that were missing the slipcovers.

I would say most stores get them slipcover-less in the 2 week of the DVD release or possible the first month of the DVD rlease.

I usually get mine on the first day with the perfect slipcover.

I'm already seeing them disappear on Bambi, Bambi II (when it's still in stock), and Cinderella. I still see Aladdin around quite often and most of the time they still have their slipcovers.

I don't see what the big deal about the slipcovers is (especially when the movie is a single disc release...it makes it seem like it's trying to be more prestigious than it is)...I never keep mine. They just get in my way anyway. :P

And I bought my Mulan 2-Disc DVD perhaps a year ago and it did not have a slipcover.

They're gone the first day if you're at a dvd store near Escapay's house.

Depends on the store I guess. I got Cinderella last year at Wal-Mart during the After Thanksgiving sale. All copies did not have a slipcover, but for $6 I couldn't pass it up.

If you really want the slipcover I would probably buy the DVD as soon as you can. Depending on the store, etc... you can see no slipcovers even in the first week of sales for the DVD.

I don't think slipcovers offer anything useful to the purchase of the DVD. They are more of a sales item than a keepsake. I rarely keep the slipcovers, they usually get very worn around the edges anyway, and they also are pretty useless. DVD cases already come with plastic covers so there is no need for a slipcover, in my humble opinion.

WTF!!!??? You people keep those things??? I just toss mine in the trash the moment I get home. always seemed like a waste of cardboard to me. (not that I'm against wasting cardboard. I say mow those trees down!! :P )

I mean, the artwork is the exact same thing thats on the case!!!

Oh well....to each his own.

in the case of Disney dvd's (thanks to their vault) they lose value if you throw away the slipcover...

That's where you a very wrong. Slipcovers offer no intrensic value to the product. If the cover is in good shape and the disc is like new, it has the same value with or without the slipcover.

Just check any of the collector's magazines and you will see what I mean.

Why does it matter if y'all like SlipCovers or not? I particularly like them, even though they are a duplicate of what is on the cover of the keepcase. Some covers have shiny stuff on them that's not on the keepcase. Isn't that cool? I just somehow feel that without the SlipCover, you only have one sock. Not that I'm comparing the movies to socks, but I think that they go hand in hand. I guess I'm just weird like that. :P

Even if slipcovers have little-to-no value, some collectors will only purchase a DVD if it came with the original slipcover. It's like buying an action figure in its original packaging. You'd get the same product as it would be opened, but there's something *more* if you get it in the unopened form. No wait...if we were using that comparison, the DVD case and plastic wrap would be the unopened mint packaging, and as usual, the slipcover is the non-essential DVD condom wrapped around it.

As for Sequel's sock comparison...I personally don't like socks. The barer the foot, the freer the soul... :D

My Lion King DVD is slipcoverless and I really don't like how it doesnt match the rets of my disney dvds. Is there any way or a number to call to get slipcovers from Disney? And if so like what should I ask for, etc.

I'm pretty sure that there was some thread that had a 1 800 number, but I'm not sure what it was.
