The "They dont make them like they used to" thread inspired to create this thread.

Choose a choice from the poll, and then also make a the one's you believe need a special edition/re release that arnt on the list.

I honestly want all those films to get spec. editions
but one's not on the list woud probably be Heavyweights.

I love that movie...and would love a widescreen version! :)

what about all of you out there?

While I really want Bedknobs and Pete's to get a SE moreso than any other Disney title, they at least have decent releases as-is. I think that the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids and Hocus Pocus DVDs are most in need of upgrades.

I vote other.

There's a little movie called "Song of the South" that needs a slight upgrade imo!

Ive never seen "song of the south", and as far as im aware SoTS has never been officially released...so it doesnt need an upgrade, It need's a debut.

But i would love for a SotS dvd...::sigh::

I'm stuck between Bedknobs & Broomsticks and Hocus Pocus. I'm going with Hocus Pocus since B&B's current DVD isn't too shabby while Hocus Pocus really needs a better release with the deleted scenes in the trailer and a commentary with all 3 witches would be awesome. I'm sure though Sarah wouldn't participate while Bette & Kathy would.

I know, it was an attempt at comedy!

But even if we were to disinclude SotS, I would still vote other. "National Treasure" should get a 2-disc set, I was actually surprised when it didn't.

We'll probably get one in 2007/2008 when the sequel comes out.

Wasn't there rumors last year that a Bedknobs and Broomsticks remake by Disney would lead to a new SE of the original? Then again, those were rumors. But I'd still like a newer SE of Bedknobs. The current is wonderful, though I would like a solid making-of docu, maybe commentary, and a more organized concept art/stills gallery. Same for Pete's Dragon. The current DVD has a few choice bonus features, but no true making-of featurette of any kind.

BTW, I voted for The Rocketeer, because as much as I love the other movies, I really really want an SE for this movie (and a better video transfer, anamorphic as well).

In terms of grosses (as in box office performance and the gross injustices been given on DVD), then Honey, I Shrunk the Kids is definitely most in need of being revisited. A blockbuster film given a pan-and-scan, no-frills DVD release? I'm sure a re-release will be coming, but hopefully it comes before the twentieth anniversary in 2009. Then again, Disney has been known to cheat on those anniversaries to suit their immediate needs.

I think either Bedknobs and Broomsticks or Pete's Dragon. Though you could make a case for the Honey I Shrunk the Kids movies. Though I have to say that my favorite is Honey I Blew Up The Kid.

As much as I'd go nuts over a Bedknobs SE, I do have to admit that it's gotten very solid DVD treatment. Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, on the other hand, has been horribly disrespected by Disney despite its success. That in all honesty deserves a SE before Bedknobs, so I voted for that.

I would have to go with Bedknobs and Broomsticks, I wouldn't mind a new edition of Honey, I Shrunk the Kids though.

I voted for other because there was a live action "Robin Hood and His Merrie Men" starring Richard Todd that desperately needs to have any type of Special Edition done.

The Rocketeer, which is a vastly underrated masterpiece. However, a H,ISTK SE would be cool too. Just not B&B. :x

I agree, and this is probably my favorite movie from the ones that were listed. I wouldn't mind if they went back and cleaned up some of the chroma screen effects, which look a little choppy after these 16 (!) years. Plus, special features, of course, and subtitles of all the German dialogue that Tim Dalton keeps phasing in and out of in the zeppelin ;) I mean, damn. Either speak English in a German accent or all German...pick one already.

Heheheh, anyway, if they make an SE edition for The Rocketeer, they should make a little promotional pack with either a Rocketeer figurine or a re-print of the Disney Comics adaptation of the movie...or perhaps a discount on the Talespin DVD set. Only seems appropriate :D

EDIT: oh, and while we're at it, how about Cool Runnings? That's the movie that made me the Olympics nut I am today. Plus, you gotta love Doug E. Doug 8)

it's true that the most puzzling of the bunch is the "Honey" films...since they were box office' smashes and even have a rides dedicated to them in the theme parks, so the public very much can always remember them.

I wouldnt mind Disney doing a full out one disc "Honey I shrunk the kid's" Special Edition and then doing a 2 disc Honey, I blew up and Honey we shrunk Double Feature release...Disney is always looking for ways to do things on the cheap , and i beleive these would be realistic from them.

And if the rocketeer ever got a re release it would deserve to be under the now dormant "Vista Series" brand...how roger rabbit got his treatment there.

::sigh:: sooo many good films that disney just walks all over...

btw this puzzled me... National Treasure is DESPERATE for a spec. ed?

Hardly...but ehh to each thier own.
