According to different HP fansites, the fifth movie, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, is set to release in US theaters on Friday, July 13th, 2007.

I think a lot of publicity could be done concentrating on the fact that the movie is being released on Friday the 13th. It could be really cool!!

Anyway, I just thought you guys would like to know!

Well, whenever it is released, I'll be there!

I agree that I definitly will be there when its released. Though I have to say that a release of July 13th kind of slashes across the speculation that the final book of the series would be released on July 7, 2007.

Actually, I think they really could pull off having the book and the movie come out around the same time. Im just mad becuase they are setting themselves up for death with this release date. July is prime real estate, and the Simpsons movie is coming out a mere 14 days after OotP?!! That will blow HP out of the water. There ruining it for themselves.

Yeah, I think the WB just really aimed for a weak spot in the summer 2007 schedule for OOTP. You get the highly-anticipated sequels: Fantastic Four 2 (July 4, 2007) and Spider-Man 3 (May 4, 2007), plus the aforementioned The Simpsons Movie. (But hey, at least we'll get the DVD release of OOTP during the holiday season.)

I don't know, but I suspect OOTP will probably make around the same amount of money POA did because of the saturated summer schedule (around $250-$270 million I estimate), which will be lower than the higher B.O. tallies for SS and GOF. Or maybe since the last book and the fifth movie being released on the same month of the same year, it'll probably be bigger. I just don't know how the last two movies will fare since by then, all the HP books will be out and everyone will know what happens in the end.

The book should help increase movie sales if they made it on the same date. (Maybe they will even if the dates aren't exactly the same.) Don't forget the new crowd of people who saw GOF only and liked it, they should be coming back. There's always hope that OOTP will beat out Simpsons, I didn't think Shrek 2 could beat out POA.

I do not think The Simpsons' Movie will inhibit any HP movie ticket sales. The summer season is always packed with blockbusters. and they always do well. And, I really do not think Homer will beat out Harry in the long run.

But one one thing is for sure...summer 2007 is going to be AWESOME!!

<i>Pirates III</i> has been pegged for Memorial Day, so even with better legs than most films, it shouldn't have much of an effect on how films released in the middle of July perform.

There is NO WAY in hell that the Simpson's movie is going to outdraw the Harry Potter movie. Not in your wildest dreams. If this had been 10 years ago then I would agree nothing would stand a chance, but The Simpsons have outlived their welcome on television and I predict right now that their movie will be a colossal bomb.

They're making them at frantic pace! Before we know it we'll be seeing the 7th film before the 7th book even gets published! No matter though, I'll be there opening night.

Ok....um..... I really hope/doubt that they will release them both on the same day. That would be suicidal. Fans would be forced to choose between the two. But im sure if they come out within a week or two of each other (which they probably will) then it will help ticket sales. ANd yes I DO believe the Simpsons movie will blow OotP out of the ballpark. Yes, its gotten a little old, BUT it will stil be freaking awesome! Look how long theyve worked to make it! I love OotP and would love for it to make tons of money, but I just dont see it happening. Maybe around CoS's amount.

Simpsons comes out July 27, right? That's more than enough time for the majority of hardcore Potterites to go and get their fix.

I think the Simpsons crowd is still quite loyal to the franchise. Yes, the last...oh....seven or so seasons have been patchy at best. (Even more dedicated/less generous souls would say it hasn't been great since season 6). I think you may be surprised that after two weeks at the box office, the Simpson fan base will give a mighty push to the film - good or bad. This isn't based on whether the film is good or not - if box office was based on the quality of the film, then the highest grossing lists of all time would be a very different looking thing. I am basing this purely on the hype/fanbase surrounding the Simpsons.

I find it entirely plausible that after two weeks on top, The Simpsons could dethrone Potter - even if it is fleeting.

The situation is gonna be messy come 2007, either way. Harry Potter's not bulletproof by any means; Prisoner of Azkhaban, for example, only spent two weeks atop the box office in 2004 before it was dethroned by the likes of Dodgeball (yes, that Underdog Story...). While there's definitely a rabid fan base there, they like to flock to the films in droves early on, with repeat viewings trickling in thereafter. I'd expect The Simpsons to indeed take the top spot from Potter when it premieres two weeks later, but whether it will actually exceed OOTP's gross all depends on how much the Simpson's fan base is fired up to see the film. This is going to be a HUGE movie for teenagers and young adults, and as we saw with Scary Movie 4 last weekend, this demographic can really get behind a movie if they want to.

I agree! The Simpsons will take over the top spot - but regardless, there are MANY die-hard Harry Potter fans out there who will see this movie no matter when it's released! I will be there on opening day, and probably will see it a second time as well. I also plan on seeing most of the other blockbusters -- but not The Simpsons (I've never been a true fan - this is one I would consider a rental....but my kids may beg me to see it and I'll give in if that happens).

As for Book 7, if the powers-that-be really wanted OOTP to have a promotional push, they would release the last book the week before the movie comes out, to get all the fans really geared up to go Potter-crazy for a while. The people who buy the book are probably going to read it in 2 or 3 days anyway (if not the first night, with fights ensuing in the households as to who gets to read it next ), and by the time they get done, ol' Harry fresh on their minds, the movie will almost be out.

Between the book and the movie, I'd say the book is the one which will have a more ironclad guarantee to sell like crazy, so why not use it to give the movie a little push?

Umm the 7th book is due out next summer. Actually right around the time of OOTP in theaters.

Also, sorry for the misinformation about PotC3 ...I'm pretty sure there's another sequel pegged for that time period. Maybe it's Shrek 3....hmm...

From what I can guessimate, here's the order of the releases:

Pirates of the Caribbean 3 (300 mil)
Shrek 3 (250 mil)
Spider man 3 (290 mil)
Fantastic 4 II (130 mil)
Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix (300 mil)
The Simpsons Movie (300 mil)

I think somethings gotta give here. Shrek 2 could do what I estimate as a lot of people were put out by the second one. But who really knows.

Oh, and you can bet I'll be at OotP opening night (or possibly day, as it'll be summer).

Phew, there are a lot of sequels coming out summer 2007. Spider-Man 3, PotC 3, OOtP, and The Simpsons are on my "must-see" list. Not sure about Shrek the Third, Ratatouville (even though Brad bird's directing it, I'm still iffy about it), Transformers, and Fantastic Four 2.
