Has anybody seen the wild yet. I am hoping to see it on saturday

nope, it looks good though. Don't know if I'll be seeing it. Maybe I will, maybe I won't.

Two words for anyone. "Eddie. Izzard."

But put a few more words in front and you get:
"A. shallow. almost. certainly. rationalised. Non. Jam. Spouting. Eddie. Izzard."

Sadly, the additional words negate the initial two words.

I would like to see it though eventually, just to compare it to Madagascar.

I just saw it with my wife and kids. The kids liked it. I give it a 7.5. Great animation, very realistic. Less humor that the expected, but a great story and several good moments. Great voice work for Jack Bauer, sorry from Keifer Sutherland.

It had a preview for Meet The Robinsons! And it showed the Cars preview twice...

I liked it. I thought the beginning was very manic - too much going on all at once....the pace could have slowed down tremendously. Once they actually got to 'The Wild', the movie improved tremendously. If only the whole movie was like the last 25 minutes...

My kids and I found many laughs that weren't spoiled by the previews. It definitely took on a plot of its own...in fact, to me I found more similarities to parts of The Lion King than Madagascar. I didn't feel I wasted my money seeing it at the theater.

I will be buying it on DVD. Oh - and I saw the first Friday showing and the theater was PACKED.

No, and I won't as The Wild is a complete ripoff of Madagascar....and Madagascar wasn't any either. I just hate ripoffs.

To be fair, Disney claims the story was proposed to them nine years ago. Now I don't know if that's true and there's probably no way to prove that without Disney providing documents (which they won't). But one thing is certain: the movie was reported to be in development as early as 2001 and was obviously already well underway before <i>Madagascar</i> was released. From the appearances of the two, I would wager that animating <i>The Wild</i> took a longer time, but still, coming out eleven months later, there's no way to avoid the charge and if it was the other way around, I'm sure everyone would be citing another outbreak of "Dreamworksplaigarism" at the box office.

Honestly, I don't blame anyone who utter the word "ripoff." The wild animals going from New York to Africa setup seems <i>too</i> coincidental. I remember hearing about the projects years ago and thinking "Someone must have gotten their information wrong, these projects sound too close to be different." But sure enough, here we are. They're different. Sort of. And whoever had the idea first, DreamWorks definitively beat Disney to the punch and will almost certainly stand to profit more of their picture in the long run.

IIRC, The DVD Commentary for Madagascar says that it was in production for about 4 years. So it's doubtful either film was intended to be a ripoff of the other

well dreamsworks are the evil people here so the disney getting story proposed 9 years ago is probably true.

I could be mistaken, but didn't The Wild go through some sort of developmental revamp a couple of years ago? The thing I remember the most is that the movie used to be called "Wild Life", and may have had a slightly different story...it might have even once been a project for main WDFA. Last I heard of it in this state, it was in Development Hell immediately preceding the crash-and-burn of the traditional animation division of WDFA...can anyone confirm any of this?

i saw it and i liked it. I thought that there should be more jokes,, but it was still funny and the animation was amazing.. i enjoyed this movie..

and i loved the preivew for Meet The Robinsons. it looks like a good movie

i saw it yesterday. the kids in the theater loved it so much. they were laughing out loud at the slapstick jokes.i like it better than ice age 2. my friends said the graphic was so good. but i beg to differ on that.i just found it to be too distracting.the koala rocks. heck its even better than chicken little.i think it was fun but lack the COOL factor.

Just got back from taking my grandkids (the three oldest ones, ages 7. 5. and 4) to see "The Wild". I think Disney did a wonderful job aiming this at the under 10 age group, and I think that the kids really enjoyed it. I found the story a little similar to "Madagasca", but not to the point of distraction. The Koala Bear probably would have been funnier if Dennis Miller or Denis Leary had done the voice over. This Eddy Lizard guy just didn't do it for me, personally.

All in all, it was an enjoyable afternoon at the movies, and the two trailers for the Pixar Film "Cars", and the Disney film "Meet the Robinsons" all look really good. Can't wait for "Cars"!!!

Saw it today and I was happy with it, I thought the animals looked like stuffed animals except the wilderbeasts, My son loved it

I thought The Wild was a fairly decent movie. A definite improvement over Chicken Little. The animation was pretty good, although not quite up to Pixar standards. Don't know how The Wild compares to Madagascar, because I have not seen the Dreamworks film. The Wild does borrow from The Lion King (even going so far as to borrow a billboard for the Broadway version for a sight gag).

Bennie (the koala) and the chameleons were my favorite characters. And the pigeons were pretty funny as well. The alligators were a bit annoying, but fortunately only had a couple of minutes of screen time. And I have to admit I didn't care very much for the animation in the opening sequence either. However, the entire part of the movie where they are in the wild is quite good. The enemies motivation for wanting the lion Samson and his son Ryan dead is somewhat unique and makes for an exciting climax (Don't want to say much more and spoil it for everyone).

Overall, I'd say three stars out of four. A good, not great film. As I said, I haven't seen Madagascar, so I can't say how much of a rip-off The Wild may or may not be.

I saw The Wild yesterday, and was surprisingly impressed. In my opinion, both the animation and story were better than Chicken Little. It was funny, well made, and voiced well. AND, despite the incredible number of similarities to Madagascar, Wild was both unlike it and better than it. Now by unlike, I mean in the way the story/movie unfolded and the overall tone of the movie. Granted that the animals and settings were the same, but just letting all who haven't seen it know that it should not be compared to Madagascar as far as overall movie feel goes.
But yeah, it was funny and entertaining; even my dad laughed a good bit. So raise those expectations and check it out.

It opened this weekend pretty poorly. Under 10 million dollars.

I whould have liked to see it this weekend but every one wanted to see Scary Movie 4 (so I saw it twice and tomorrow I may again because a girl at school wants to). I wish it was higher than 4th place at the box office I thought it would be at LEAST 3rd.

I thought it was great when the animals were going through New York City and they passed the Lion King Broadway play

I know - I was shocked. The theater where I saw it was full last Friday. I hope more people still have this on their list to see next weekend. I can't wait for it to come out on DVD so I can see it again.

That said, I think Disney needs to plan their opening weekends better. They shouldn't have come anywhere close to Ice Age 2 with this one. And it seems to me that two future movies....Enchanted and Meet the Robinsons are placed on very poor weekends.

Meet the Robinsons is up against Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Enchanted is up against another Dreamworks movie - I think it's called Bee Movie or something like that.
