Is the Carousel of Progress still in Walt Disney World? I was there last year, and it was all closed up. I am going back this year, and hope it will be open. I heard it was just closed for a new paint job. Is this true?

It's a seasonal attraction now, meaning it runs when they need to filter people out of the sidewalks and into an attraction.
So it'll likely be open in the summer.

Thank you. I was there last July, and it was closed. We are going back this July and hope it will be open. Does anyone know why it cahnged to seasonal?

I'm guessing it was changed to seasonal because it isn't all that popular, which is a shame as it's one of my favorites. Oh well. As long as they keep it up and running, I won't complain, even if it is for a small fraction of the year.

While nobody knows the exact reason why, my guess is that it's the "future" section of it and it's starting to age.
It's a real shame Disney isn't giving it the attention it deserves. If it ever does go, I'll go as far and say for a while that I actually "hate" Disney.

Hehe, especially the references to the wonders of HDTV, laserdiscs, and how kids today can't live without a CAR phone.

I went to the Magic Kingdom twice this past February and the Carousel was open! I believe it still is.

They've been keeping it open a lot more over the last year and a half or so, which is a good thing. CoP is one of my favorite attractions. It's not exactly a Super Headliner, but it does manage to swallow up a decent amout of crowds when it's open. It's fairly expensive to operate from what I understand, which probably explains part of why it doesn't run all the time, but then it does generate electricity itself!

I think CoP is currently open but has been placed on that 'seasonal' list so this could change at any time. I hope 'seasonal' isn't the kiss of death like for Timekeeper and Wonders of Life; this is a great attraction and deserves to stay there. (Maybe could use a good update, but still.)

My family and I were at WDW the first week of April. Yes, COP was open.
I hope it remains a permanent fixture at the park. I believe I have heard that COP is NOT at Disneyland. Can anyone confirm this? That would be a shame, because that would likely have the been the original (except for refurbishings) from the 1964 NY World's Fair.

Yup, it's been gone a LONG time ago! It was replaced by America Sings, but after a tragic accident, they changed it to the wonderful Innoventions!

COP has been open since they started to work on Stitch's Great Escape, so I don't think that its a seasonal attraction anymore. Its really a fun attraction and I agree that it should stay in the park. A little update would be nice but its a great attraction with a very memorable song.

Planning on going next spring/early summer.
Really hope it's open, I loved it growing up and I keep telling my wife about it.

I can tell you in about a week-and-a-half if it is currently open. Although I think Escapay can actually investigate this at any time. It would be a shame is they closed it. Tomorrowland is the biggest land in the park but it has the fewest number of attractions (at WDW). It is really lacking and disappointing. I wish they would close the race track and use the space for something else...like expanding Fantasyland or putting in some more Tomorrowland stuff. Or better yet they could put 20,000 Leagues back in. I think they should have put MissionSpace in Tomorrowland but that is another story.

Actually, from what I understand, the original COP is actually at Disney World. I know that sounds funny but I believe that is so.

You'd have a better shot in your week and a half than me, since I don't go back to WDW until May 22. But I'll keep an eye during my summer there and report when it's open and when it's not, lol.

I was in the Magic Kingdom last night and COP was open. I found Escapay sleeping in a cave on Tom Sawyer's Island.

If you're (unfortunately) going to be in the Magic Kingdom on the 4th of July, it'll definitely be opened.
