Final Fantasy 7 for the Big Screen

There are a lot of rumours that Square-Enix may remake Final Fantasy 7 for the the PS3.
I hope they don't do that but imagine what Final Fantasy 7 would look like if it was made into a 2D animated movie by Disney.

It would be interesting to see if Disney can animate anime/manga style characters well. (I don't think Miyazaki would be interested in FFVII)

Wow! This thread finally gets a second post (note the date for the first one).

So ... er ... Anyone interested in discussing?

I don't play the video games and I've only seen Final Fantasy The Spirits Within, which I know has nothing to do with the games at all. I just picked up the 2 disc Final Fantasy VII for $8.99 at Circuit City. After I watch it, I will come back here and discuss.

Do you mean the Final Fantasy VII PSone game or Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children? If it's the latter, I recommend playing the game first, as the movie is a sequel to the game. Hence, you might not understand much.

Advent Children. The guy at the store said you don't need to play the game to understand the movie. ::sigh::

What an idiot! :x The movie picks up exactly where the game left off! The DVD actually offers a feature called "Reminiscence of Final Fantasy VII" which is supposed to recap what happened in the game, but it's basically useless seeing as it confuses the crap out of anyone not familiar with the said videogame.

I really wish you wouldn't watch the movie not only because it won't make much sense, but because it will spoil the storyline of game. It's a friggin wonderful videogame. You should play it if you have time (provided you have a PlayStation or PlayStation 2 and a copy of the game).

I'll have to check with my brother and or nephews, they may have a copy. I don't have a Playstation. :(

There's only one reason why I would like to see FF7 remade, as much as I abhor the game:

Cloud in drag.

There's been rumors going around about an FFVII remake for ages. Every so often the rumor gets refueled by something Square puts out, like the PS3 tech demo where they remade the FFVII intro. Now the "secret ending" of Crisis Core and a "cryptic" message in the 10th Anniversary Ultimania have gotten the rumor mills going again. I wouldn't believe any of the circulating rumors until Square themselves confirm a remake.

Of course, I'm almost sure that they will eventually come out with a remake, but whether it's going to be in 1 year or 10 has yet to be known...

Er ... guys. We're not talking of a remake of the game, but its being adapted into a movie. I think remaking a game is mostly pointless. This time give us a sweeping version for the sliver screen, coupled with Nobuo Uematsu's beatiful score rerecorded by a full orchestra.

Even a movie is enough. We already have Advent Children. Again stop with the FFVII whoring.

Do something else with like FFVI, one of best out there.

Thing is, I think FF fans would have preferred a game-2-film adaptation than a sequel to the game for a film. Really, I wish they never made the film ... and never made people sick with misc FFVII merchandise inc sequels, prequels and the like so that some people may still have some enthusiasm for a worth-while project ... like a film.

If I had to be honest, though, I think adapting FFVII to a movie would be a very arduous task, given the complex storyline. It could very well not work out. Moreover, one film is not enough to cover the entire plot. They'd need at least two. Perhaps a trilogy?
