What do you think of The Lion King's "New" look?

I have seen those pictures of the crocodiles, and tomorrow right after school I will see the rest of the "special" edition. I want to know what everybody thinks of the restoration. I will post my comments tomorrow, and I think most of you will wait till tomorrow also. At a first glance though, I am dissapointed with those screenshots of the crocodiles!

I mean why couldn't they just make the colors a little brighter, instead of actually CHANGING the animation!

I am still looking very foward to getting my dvd tomorrow, I just hope that the crocodiles were the most drastically changed thing in the movie!

Don't like it. My disliking is only fueled by the false marketing of it being the original version.

I have not seen the whole thing (and will propably not either!

since I decided to not get this DVD, due to it´s false advertizments and destroying of another Disney original!!!)
When should they learn....?
But from the pictures I have seen I ABSOLUTELY HATE IT!

Well, I saw the whole thing now and here's what I thought, Morning Report is TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the voice doesn't sound ANYTHING like Simba!!!!

But most of the film was pretty much unchanged, except for color (like Beauty and the Beast had). My guess was right, the only things that actually went through a dramatic change were some of the animals in the "I Just Can't Wait To Be King" song. Over all, ok, but not the best pick of the litter.

I wonder who presents information to WDS that makes them believe that we actually want things "updated"? It's frustrtaing to know that a select few are making the decisions as to what millions of us want/need to see. And based on the continued uproar with this release they still don't get it.
Give us a nice, clean restoration. PERIOD.

i voted "ok" because had it been changed or not, i would still get it.. and that's the kind of consumer disney is banking on i assume
after watching it this evening, so much of the movie felt
different. the sound (not the quality, just what sounds in the movie my ears heard in general), the animation, the edited scenes.. so many times my husband and i were saying "i don't remember that" or "was that there before?" of course it's literally been a few years since i last watched TLK, but nevertheless, something just didn't feel right. don't get me wrong, i love The Lion King, it's one of my faves, but i just wasn't as impressed with it as i hoped i would be
but being the collecting fool that i am, i've got it sitting proudly on the shelf in between beauty and the beast and herc.

Well I have to admit I did like the "Human Again" from Beauty and the Beast!

Edited?? What was taken out? The only thing I recalled as missing was the close up of baby Simba at the end of the "Circle of Life" song.

Yeah, me too, but that was suppose to be there, and truely I thought it was integrated perfectly, I didn't even realize that it was the new scene until a minute in, now Mourning report was NEVER suppose to be in the movie, which I have not seen yet (the DVD, you know what I mean), and from what I've heard, it's absolutely aweful, the few clips I've seen in the commercials, looks aweful. I will probably see this, the one time, and then never again, only the "original" after that, where as I'll always watch the "Special Edition" version of BATB. Aladdin should also be getting atleast one new musical number, since there were 2 unreleased masters of Jafar songs,
Why Me which is good and tells us a little bit about Jafar, and the other is
Humiliate the Boy which was cut, after being edited several times, cause it was thought to be to cruel for disney, I just think it's a wickedly cool song, this was replaced by the reprise of "prince Ali" jafar style!

So I think a SE of Aladdin, with Why Me, worked out so it will fit in, and Humiliate the Boy, replaced Ali reprise, also there are a few alternative songs for the Little Mermaid, I think the original opening, not too different, would be good.
Anyway, I have just droned on and on, I'll tell you what I think once I've seen the movie.

they redid the scene where something that looks like the word "sex" is floating in the sky. they totally changed that part i thought. it wasn't anything close to what i remember seeing in the vhs.

Well, it's debatable if Human Again was supposed to be Beauty and the Beast or not. It was dropped because they "couldn't get it to work in the context of the movie". Therefore, it could be classed as being the same as every other deleted or abandoned scene.
Personally instead of the Human Again sequence, I would rather have the original proposed animated opening of the story of the curse on the prince and his castle. (Oh and by the way, what happened to the king and queen?)
As for Lion King - I've never owned the VHS so I'm no expert. As many people know, I'm against revisoninst filmmaking, but I wouldn't mind the Lion King DVD release - after all it is the IMAX version which was shown on the big (B-I-G) screen. I just wish they would label it as such. (And I also wish that they would stop calling it restoration. It is not restoration - restoration is restoring it to it's original state). I would still be against the release, but if labeled correctly most of my hostility towards Disney would disappear.
But people who say it's no big deal - how would you feel if Steamboat Willie was similarly resored and altered?

Wow, 2099net doesn't own the most-owned videocassette of all time...and it's a Disney animated film. The horror, the horror!
I'm going to see if I can put together some screencaps from the original theatrical cut and the 'original theatrical cut' for comparisons. Good chance I won't be able to, but maybe someone with the laserdisc can help.

The Lion King Original Version DVD is just a edited version of the Special Edition. Also, blame Warner Bros. for editing "Battlefield:Earth" into their so-called "Director's Cut" by editing scenes out,and shorting the length.
