BBC News wrote:The Incredibles creator Brad Bird is taking on a restaurant-dwelling rat for his next project.

He will once again be working for Pixar on the animated film Ratatouille, about a mouse who lives in Paris.

The project had been around for several years and it was originally thought Czech animator Jan Pinkava would be directing it.

Work has begun on the complex animation for Ratatouille and it is due for release in 2007.

Bird was behind the hugely successful The Incredibles cartoon, writing and directing the film which he had conceived 12 years before it came to the big screen.

The film used ground-breaking animation technology.

Bird had previously worked on The Iron Giant and Steven Spielberg's Amazing stories series.

Pixar's next release will be Cars, a film which was pushed back from November 2005 to June this year to capitalise on the US summer holiday season.

Disney and Pixar severed ties in 2004 but the firm has since been bought by Disney in a $7.4bn (£4.2bn) deal.
My thoughts=:D

You're damn right! :D After the masterpieces Iron Giant and The Incredibles, I'm anxious about anything Brad and animation related!

I was actually rather surprised when I first heard this. Ratatouille doesn't seem like Brad Bird's "kind" of film. It will also be interesting to see a movie come from him that wasn't his idea. Still, after Iron Giant and Incredibles, I don't doubt that this will be great! :thumb:

The only thing that bugs me: John Lasseter showed the teaser trailer for Ratatouille at Disney's shareholder meeting recently. That means the teaser is completed...and we don't get to see it for another three months!! :P

Brad Bird is my animator hero (and John Lasseter). I know for sure this one will be good even if I don't know what the story is about. Brad would never ever lose focus on the plot of any of his movies.

Teaser eh? I guess they have started on the film already! :D

So Bird has become an official Pixar employee?

The Simpsons, The Iron Giant and The Incredibles are masterpieces!

I love everything Brad Bird has done- The Simpsons, The Iron Giant and The Incredibles are all great. Great to see Pixar has found confidence in a director that was recruited in to direct one film and now has grown to become a major part of the Pixar family. Now hopefully he'll return to Pixar for a third time with The Incredibles II!

I'm thankful that we're getting another Brad Bird film from Pixar. He has in incredible mind for story, heart, and humor.

I wonder if the creative team will draw any inspiration from the use of scale in A Bug's Life or The Great Mouse Detective?

Is far as I know, its about a Rat, who lives the good life in an Italian restaurant (he can dine on all the scraps of fine food and expensive wines) until he is evicted from the restaurant by some exterminators and has to fend for himself in the "outside" world.

Wow, that's more than I knew. Where did you hear the "exterminated" bit?

Well, like I say, I used to work in a company which employed Jan's sister :) She had some information, but very little.

This is all information that is at least 3 years old - some of it could have changed since then, but I guess the basic plot will be the same. After all every film is about conficts and pampered to poor sounds like an animated movie plot.

Oddly, its also the plot to Flushed Away - "A pampered British rat accidentally gets flushed from his posh penthouse flat into the slimy London sewers." - but that is not a "rip-off" as it was first mooted in 2001 and announced in 2002 - Ratatouille was first revealed in 2003.

Ratatouille actually deals with a rat which can't bear to eat garbage food like the others rats, so he comes into a french (not italian) restaurant to have raffinate cheese and food.
