A what if question

This not meant to be racist, but what if some how slavery in America never ended? What would change? Last night a friend of mine brought it up and it made me think about how much stuff would be different or delayed…so I wanted to see what other people would say.

Presumably the United States would have continued to take advantage of those worse off than themselves offering low or non-existant wages to the desperate, cast off all the demeaning and dirty jobs to said underclasses and become a "superpower", based on others processing their natural resources and wealth on their behalf for no reward.
Er. Hold on.... It would be different?
