Hey guys,
I just bought Harry Potter 4:The 2 disc Special Edition on Tuesday and there was no chapter insert in inside. The only booklet inside the DVD was a booklet showing collectors items from the movie. So I'm just wondering if Harry Potter 4:The 2 disc Special Edition was supposed to have a chapter insert and if it was, if anyone knew of a number i could call and ask for one.

But no, there's no booklet included in the Harry Potter: Goblet of Fire DVD.

Many DVD companies have cut back or cut out including the booklet/chapter listing to save money on the DVD's.

Many = all of them except Fox and Buena Vista (Disney, Touchstone, Miramax, etc.). AFAIK, they seem to be the only major studios still releasing inserts. MGM and Paramount made a big press thing about it, while Universal and WB seemed to have quietly discontinued them. I don't buy many Columbia/TriStar/now all Sony DVDs, so I'm not sure if they still make inserts.

They should use the clear cases and put the info on the back of the title paper. DVDs look ugly when you openthem and it's just BLACK

I know, it's like a perk to having the special edition. I was so pissed off that my first five Star Trek movies have those nice inserts, then 6-10 don't (well, just 6, 7, and 10, as I kept the old inserts from First Contact and Insurrection).

Now whenever I plan on getting rid of an old edition of a DVD, I keep the old insert, since more often than not, the new edition won't have it.

I open up my Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera to pop it in my player ... BLACK .. Disc.

I open up my Mean Girls to watch it, for some fun and laughs ... BLACK .. Disc.

I open up the Rent: 2-Disc Widescreen Special Edition to sing-a-long with some of my favorites. Oh, hey, it's a chapt..oh, it's just a craptastic cut & paste Rent photo, with no writing about the chapters, what-so-ever. .. :sigh:

Well, at least I'm expecting it, with Warner's wonderous track record.

I find the major culprit to be WB, and now it seems like other studios want to copy them.

My list of DVDs without chapter inserts from WB:

Its pretty sad when a best picture winner and a nominee don't get inserts.

I dont think the chapter inserts are that important, I like it better when there is an insert about the special features on the dvd

Warner never had inserts(and no, I not counting the lame picture in the background with the list of chapters that they put on the back of their old snapper cases, I mean REAL inserted inserts.) And Sony still has inserts, they just don't say s**t about the film you bought, just about other Sony films on DVD.

Yes they did but only for a little bit of time. Also the 3rd Harry Potter comes to mind as one.

I agree with Memnv..........Chapter inserts are of no use. There is a menu screen for 'scene selections' that is the same as a chapter insert would have. It is just a case of duplication. I remember when they did a poll a few years ago asking whether or not a person would rather have a 'paper' chapter insert, or the, already included, 'scene selections' menu on the disc. The disc one won. I would rather have a list of the 'extras' included on the disc myself. But it doesn't bother me that there is nothing. If a chapter selection sheet is so important, get on your computer and make one, using the 'scene selection menu'.

Then why do you need a list of Extras on an insert? They're listed on the DVD menus too!

Unlike a list of extras, its useful to have a seperate chapter listing, because DVD players allow you to key a chapter number directly on your remote without having to access the scene selections menu (or in most cases these days - bloated multiple scene selection menus)

Why watch a movie if you are going to skip chapters...........like I said before, you have a computer, make your own chapter list. Then you won't have to complain about not getting one.

A DVD Extras insert would go into detail about what you are getting in the extra material, something that they don't do on the disc menu.

Besides, I don't skip through movies, when it starts I watch it until the end. If I have a favorite scene I know where to find it without looking it up on the chapter list.

No accusations here, but I think it is a sign of laziness to have to have everything spelled out for you on a chapter list. If it means so much, make your own.

I don't necessarily need an insert for a chapter listings, but it's like an added bonus, especially back when an insert booklet was actually considered a bonus feature for the DVD itself (just look at any early MGM DVD, they always list an 8-page Collectible Booklet as a special feature).

But I agree that inserts are rather redundant if it's solely giving a chapter listings. I prefer inserts to actual have some other use besides a chapter listing. Some production notes, maybe a letter from the director, etc. The insert should be a tangible guide to the DVD without having to play the DVD, it should be a sort of "primer" for what to expect on the DVD.

For example, take the 2-disc Batman Begins. The second disc is as confusing as hell to navigate, and the only way to get a real index is to simply go through each page until you reach the end. It would have been simpler to have a DVD guide within the set that explains the bonus features so you know which ones you may want to watch and which ones to skip instead of skipping each page just to get to an index.

The Disney inserts at least provide a breakdown of each disc (sometimes with runtimes), so if someone's trying to find something quickly but can't remember where it is on the disc, they can consult the guide and get to it more quickly on disc as opposed to searching on the disc itself (though searching of course, is half the fun).

Ideally if you're going to have an insert, you would get a chapter list on one side of the insert and special feature list on the other. It's not difficult is it? A 3 year old could come up with that solution.

God alone knows why we get so many inserts are printed which simply duplicate the cover art on one side (which is already duplicated on a slipcover).

The US have that standard black plastic case.

Clear plastic covers + double sided cover sleeves = solution to all the world's ills, including poverty, oppression, depression, recession and..er.. other stuff.

I love the way the I LOVE LUCY DVDs are (they would have to be the thicker ones) LIKE the Walt disney world DVDs they give out I love seeing color when I open a dvd.

Going along with what DVDjunkie said, I think making DVD inserts is a plausible solution.

While I would rather have the inserts already there, I have fun making my own for DVDs I buy without them.
