Does anyone know if Peter Jackson is planning on an Super Duper Extended edition soon? I see that a 2 disk Special Edition is coming on March 28th but if he's planning on an extended edition within a year like he did for Lord of the Rings I'll wait. Anyone have details? Should I plan on buying the 2 disk Production Diary's that's already out and then the 2 disk special edition of the movie on March 28th and call it good? Any help would be appreciated.

Whether or npt there is going to be a special edition later this year for "King Kong" should not prevent you from buying the "Peter Jackson Production Diearies" DVD collection. It is awesome and you will find yourself watching it over and over, especially after you get your 2-disc edition of the movie. If there should be a Special Edition down the road it would be a Post Production collection, so the "Diaries" would still be good to have.

My suggestion is to buy the "Production Diaries" DVD's, get the two-disc releae of "King Kong" and then a year or so down the road, if they decide to do one, get the Special Edition.

There's definitely going to be another version of King Kong put out. Not only did Universal spend mega-bucks on the film, there's no commentary track on the 2 disc release. It's unthinkable a recent Peter Jackson film would be released without at least 1 commentary track.

As to if it will be extended or not... I don't know. I hope not. More isn't always better.

Wait awhile for the Production Diaries. I read it's gonna get a price drop after King Kong 2005 comes out, to around $22.99

Anyways, I'm looking into buying the 2-disc King Kong 2005, the Production Diaries after the price drop, and the likely Extended Cut (though I don't know how much more they could add to the 187 minutes...)

Personally, I'm looking forward to the Non-Indulgent Edition that relegates the superflous hour+ to the deleted scenes section!

Who cares? The movie sucked, what makes people think the DVD will improve it at all???

You know what they say about opinions, Lazario. In this case, I don't agree with yours.

I must say, I will be quite happy with the 2-Disc release of this, but should an extended edition release come along, I'll add it to my collection.

I personally would like to see the three-hour-55-minute original cut of "King Kong". I think that would be great to have if Jackson decides to do what he did with LOTR Trilogy. I found that the theatrical version of this film moved along at a brisk pace, and stands on its own as a tribute to the 1933 version of the film.

IMO, what Lazario doesn't understand is, this was movie-making at it ultimate best. Jackson has take the original 1933 script, and followed it word for word and scene for scene. King Kong was a love story first, and a 'monster' film second. People, like Lazario, seem to lose that when they view the film. If you have watched the '33 version complete with all the extras, you will see that the '33 version had a ton of editing because of the Censors (Hays Office), and the film was less than 100 minutes long, but the original running time was in excess of three hours.

You must think you're so clever saying that... But there's a difference between suspension of disbelief and stupidity. The love story you are describing is between a human woman and a piece of bad COMPUTER animation! Sorry. Logically, you've disconnected. This didn't work in '89 when Paula Abdul did "Opposites Attract" and without more convincing technology - it doesn't work as of this date either. Basically, you're just seeing what you want to be true. But a story, not even the one you think is so amazing as is featured in this movie, is not enough to make anyone with a brain forget that THESE 2 figures do not match. It didn't work in Howard the Duck and it doesn't work now either. There's a reason Mary Poppins was with Burt and not the penguins!

Yay! A kindred spirit!

There was definitely too much in it to start with, and I don't think I could tolerate a longer cut. I know stuff wasn't used in the original film for various reasons, but an extra hour or so of fanboy references does not a good film make.

Unfortunately, PJ is not of the 'directors cuts that are shorter' school...
