End of Platinum Edition?

I opened my new Lady & the Tramp Platinum Edition DVD today and on the back of the DVD Guide I noticed that where the usaul two coming soon DVDs were listed (Platinum Editions) only The Little Mermaid was listed. What does this mean for the future Platinum Editions?

Also has anyone noticed the extreme decrease in quality of Lady & the Tramp. The opening flap is gone, the DVD Guide is now just a page where it used to be numerous, the adds are gone, the Disney DVD Guide is gone, the new cheep art, and much more are really dissapointing. It is really turning into a childs game now with the kiddie fast play..never has that been on a Platinum Edition. Disney has really lost site in what matters in a Platinum Edition.

yeah

I think that the quality of the disney inside the dvd thingy is going down. Even the insider disney booklet was only like 9 or 10 pages. Usually they are about 18. I think that it only says The Little Mermaid because they aren't really for sure what movie will be next. We don't even know. Apparently, 101 Dalmatians has already been restored, but the list says that The Jungle Book is in March of next year, and yet it hasn't been restored. So we don't know.

The end of the Platinum, IMO, came when the decision was made to speed up their releases to two a year. Looking at the last three platinums, Bambi, Cinderella, and Lady and the Tramp, while they're wonderful films, their bonus features more often than not leave a lot to be desired. Sure, "Inside Walt's Story Meetings" was pretty good, but other than that and a few bonus features on disc 2, Bambi's release was rather weak. And of course, Cinderella was half-fluff and half-serious bonus stuff. Disney's rushing through these and they're not making them...worth being called Platinum. Then again, I'm probably just complaining that they're not the same level of quality as Snow White, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin.

It is sad that the quality of the Platinum Edition line has gone down, especially since they decided to release two per year. I feel that Disney either got lucky, or spoiled us with Snow White, but NONE of the Platinum Editions have hit that level, and I fear, they never will.

I am happy, however, to be getting these films with great restorations, and some bonus features that matter. The Platinum Edition release of Lady And The Tramp shows the great stride in quality, since the release of the Limited Issue.

I don't see Platinum Edition DVD's going out anytime soon. I'll have to get it this week. It a great movie, I didn't really see the bonus features yet. I didn't like the "Fast Play" mode. It's a start-up feature that plays movies and bonus features that plays automatically without using a remote control on my DVD player and recorder. "Bambi 2" has the "Fast Play" feature. That's the DVD I bought. "The Little Mermaid" is going to be release as a Platinum Edition by the fall.

Personally, I'd like to see the Platinums end and a revival of the 2-(or more)-disc Collector's Edition-era of the UTB, Fantasia Anthology and all those other feature-laden sets. That was the golden age of Disney DVD.

I don't think my dvd from Toys R Us came with a DVD Insider! I'm tempted to exchange it with a store so I have one.

None of the Platnum Editions have quite the welth of features as Snow White did.....that is probably one of the best DVDs of all time!!
I thought Cinderella hit a home run with it's historical inclusions, but it also had to much goofy stuff that didn't belong like the ESPN thing and the How to be a Princess Thing.....

The excerpts from Disneyland on LATT are awesome. Make sure you check them out with the introduction!!!!

Got mine at Walmart and it has a DVD insider. Disney has sure been going cheap on there DVDs lately This DVD the last wave of Disney Treasures and the upcomming wave of Ghibli. Did they really have to give Lady and the Tramp my favorite Disney film a ghetto slipcover.

Neither did mine. I also picked up the Cinderella GiftSet today and it didn't include a copy either. I wish they were available online or something.

i got mine from walmart also and i also got a dvd insider. As far as cheapness, the only real complaint is that it doesn't have a flip cover, but in the end that doesn't bother me because all i do is hang them on my wall via thumbtack and keep the actually movie and case on the rack. so flip or no flip as long as it has a slipcover i'm ok.

By DVD Insider I mean the little magazine that comes with Disney DVDs. It usaully has a list of up-coming DVDs, family activities to do together, rebates, special offers, etc etc.

Sadly, that's the only PE I don't have! :( And now I doubt if the bonus features will be as "great" if I wait for a re-release, seeing that the trend of them is declining.

I wonder if I should just bite the bullet and pay $50 for a copy on e-bay?
