The Olympics

Have any of you (those here in the states) been disapointed in the way TEAM USA has done this Year? When you consider the past and look at what was said before hand, we have not really lived up to expectations.

Tonights performance by Skaters Missner & Cohen (please ignore the spelling) is just one example along with Bodi Miller.

Just wanting some of y'alls thoughts.

I feel bad that I can't summon the slightest bit of interest in this year's Winter Olympics. Is it unpatriotic/unsportsmanlike of me to say that I'm itching for "Scrubs" and Conan to return?

Anyway, I don't mean to turn your thread away from its original intention, but I honestly wish I had something more intelligent to add.

No, cause I'm itching for "Las Vegas" to return! (I get my L&O: SVU fix from TNT, lol)

Anyways, to stay on topic, I can't honestly say it looks like we're doing good this year. Granted, I've probably watched a combined 1 hour of the Olympics since last Friday, but I've heard so many things this year that don't sound good for US of A. One factor for the lower ratings this year (I heard it was down 36%) I think would have to be Michelle Kwan's injury that forced her to withdraw. I think when the US loses one of its bigname Olympic stars, it hurts their chances in the ratings as well.

Oh, and a general Olympic question: I was flipping back and forth between USA and Spike around 2 o'clock today (Olympics versus Star Trek: TNG, who would win?), and on the Olympics they had Sweden versus Switzerland in this event that I've never seen before. Apparently you've got one person on her knees sliding down a piece of ice with this large flat ball (like a bowling ball, slightly squished, with a handle), and she lets it go, and these two people with some kind of broom (looks like a floor cleaning thing like Swiffer), and constantly sweeping up the ice in front of the path of the ball, to the point where the ball gets to this big target, and hits other flat balls. I have NO idea what this game is, it looks like a strange hybrid of shuffleboard, air-hockey, bowling, and darts. Can someone tell me what that sport was???

BTW, what medals did we win so far this year?

Curling. The most mocked sport on Earth (besides the 2 man luge).

Just wait until 2-man skeleton becomes an event. :P

Anyway, THIS is the reason to be watching the olympics:

I've been always told to stay away from girls that flexible. ;)

I haven't seen an Olympic event once because...
1. Lost interest in it.
2. US Hockey Team is not going to win. :(
3. Have to go to school and work.

Hmmm. By we I suppose you mean the US. Well, quite proud of Canada with the exception of men's hockey.

Is that Sasha Cohen in that pic? She did really good on her short program, smoothest jumps I'd seen, too bad she flubbed those first two jumps in her long. Although, she looks crazy, I bet she's a little nuts. Her smile and crazy eyes kind of creep me out, she is just so intense looking while skating.

I've seen some Olympics this year, not as much as when I was younger and we would watch them all as a family (maybe becuase I didn't have my own tv then?). I started watching more this week then last week. Seems I've seen a lot of snowboarding which I still think is weird as an Olympic sport. Never until this year have I payed attention to figure skating though, never really cared to follow it, maybe my enjoying Ice Princess more than I thought I would has something to do with that. I dig the bobsled and all that (except skeleton, seems kinda pointless, just a backwards luge) but all I've seen is the end of the two person ladies. I keep missing the rest. The arial have been cool too, saw some of those.

Escapay, I've never quite understood curling either, I mean, come on, why does the ice need sweeping? Is it dusty in there or is smooth, clean ice just not slippery enough for rocks they have to extra-smooth it. I just don't get it.

Its not that I'm un-American or such thing its just that I watch the highlights of each night, where as the rest of my family has watched every night except Sundays (we taped it then.) I just found that with it not being Live, I had a hard time watching when I could go the Website and find it all out without Watching.

But Next Week....

Apprentice, Deal no Deal, L&O, L&O:CI, E-RING, and new CBS!!!!!!!

I agree. I thought the family edition Amazing Race would be good, but it didn't live up to the billing.
