VP Cheney "accidentally" shoots hunting partner!

I guess you have to watch what you say even if you're a friend of the "VP in charge of torture" Cheney.
Leno, Letterman, Stewart & all other comedians are probably cutting their weekends short to write their Monday monologues.

I say if the guy makes it out of this mess and has a sense of humor about it, no harm done. I mean, just because Cheney is a heartless bastard who doesn't care about his own daughter just because she's a lesbian (he refuses to publically accept it), doesn't mean he wants to kill his friends. At least not in broad daylight, in a group... I mean, it was a simple mistake to make, right. Hunting is just like war, you try to shoot 'the enemy' and you try to concentrate - but when those pesky foreign critters are coming toward you and they have home field advantage, you start shooting - how can you be held responsible for what gets in your way. A bullet has no name on it, after all. It's all for the love of a sport, these guys knew what they were getting into. There were risks involved. You got to roll with the punches. You have to grab life by the hair, and ride by the seat of your pants. If this guy had been watching where he was standing, and where he overzealous partner was standing, that would take some of the enjoyment out of invading someone else's natural environment and playing God. Who can predict what will happen in God's country? God works in mysterious ways. He will, I think, be spared the full affect of shellshock, he'll come out of this with life knowledge and have even more exciting stories to tell his great, great grandchildren. It's just a scratch. Think of it as a personal souvenir, a ready-to-wear hunting trophy. Better yet- a war wound. Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get. Years from now, he's going to look back at this and laugh and laugh. Don't tell him he doesn't know what Vietnam is like! One day, they're going to erect a statue of him in that town. Did you ever know that he's my hero? Why, he's just an innocent victim of circumstance. With an ambulance, he had a chance, but in a hearse- it's got to be worse.

Yeah I can't wait to see the Daily Show on that one.
From what I've heard they were going quail hunting. The thing about bird hunting is... well the birds go off in all different directions when you flush them out. You have to be really careful in a situation like that and you need to know where all of your hunting partners are at. In fact there are a few rules about bird hunting. Any body who's taken a hunting safety course will know this.
1. If you have one or more hunting partners you need to be at least 10 yards away from each other and only shoot in your designated zone. The designated zone is 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock.
2. (More of an sporting rule) Engage the birds only after they have flown higher than 10 o'clock up. This is especially important if you are using hunting dogs.
3. Use common sense. If a bird flies over your head... don't attempt to engage it because with your finger on the trigger and swinging the weapon around real fast, the gun is more likely to go off accidentally. Bottom line don't shoot birds that fly over your head or fly behind you unless you are the only one on the field.
4. And most importantly; your safety should always be on until right before you engage anything.
Now I'm assuming that Dick never went to a hunting safety course because of the grandfather clause. If he new how to hunt safe that accident probably would have never happen. There is really no excuse for it; you need to know how to be safe while handling a deadly weapon!!!

Lazario, why are you such a trouble-maker. Read the published reports in reputable newspapers and forget about your personal feelings. This was an accident, and no one is ducking out on it. It could have been you, or me there. It was an accident. Why do you have to make something political just because your are so closed-minded about what is going on in our country?

Maybe it wasn't a accident, right DVDjunkie.

In an effort to prove that he's a uniter, not a divider Dubya has invited all of the top leaders of the Democratic party to go hunting with VP Cheney.

Two songs about this come to mind...
Hey Dick by Jimi Hendrix:
"Hey Dick... where you goin' with that gun in your hand?"
and
Cheney's Got a Gun by Aerosmith:
"Now that Cheney's got a gun, he ain't never gonna be the same."

Sorry to be the one to post and run, but it's seeing stuff like this that makes me not want to come here as often as I did in the past. I'm afraid that even in the most innocent of posts there will be political jab statements from this person. There are places on the internet made for this type of discussion, and I don't think UD is the place, even if it is in the Off-Topic section. There is another forum I participate on where we have the same type of individual who grandstands her political views proudly and in a rather obnoxious way. All she has done is stir up controversy and caused "drama" and I must say, the only reason I think she really did it was to make herself look impressive to others.
I've learned a lot from my toddler on how to treat beligerant, pestering folks. The best thing to do is IGNORE THEM
Thanks folks, and have a good day!
It's just like someone like this to use a hunting accident to show off their one-sided political mantra, much like turning a eulogy at a funeral into a showcase of your own political views.
I pray that this man heals quickly from his injuries, and that the VP takes a few lessons in hunting safety!!

Well said catNC, but I am afraid it will fall on deaf ears when it comes to Lazario. He thinks he lives in a perfect world and every one should believe like he does. He forgets that we are in largest, most powerful, FREE country in the world where one can say the things he says without being executed in the public square.
Once again I will challenge Lazario to go take his views to the nearest Military base and see if he comes out alive. Better yet, join the military service and see what it is that keeps him free to expound his idiotic mantra.

Here here! Being a recently returned vet from Iraq myself, I can tell you, all of you that you don't know the first thing about what's going on over there or how the military feels about our mission. In a word, positive.
Now, as was so aptly stated before, this is not really the place for vitriol, acidic political discussion, there are plenty of other places like that online. Isn't this "off topic" board for things like Dreamworks and such?

My above post was a joke post about the really bizarre nature of this accident... Um, tell me how that was exactly political? Other than the fact that I might not have replied had the shooter have been, oh I don't know, Tom Selleck or somebody.
And just to prove that no one here understands their ass from a hole in the ground, you were unable to know what to make of lines like "life is like a box of chocolates"... so you assumed it was a slam against... SOLDIERS FIGHTING THE IRAQ WAR. Does that sound fishy to anyone other than me?
If you think this isn't the place to start more conversing about the Iraq war - hey, I think you're right. But who really started it? Someone other than me, as usual. I just make it easier for you all to look for a scapegoat. God, you people are sad.

Doesn't anyone else find it funny (not in a humourous way), that the poster here who espouses to "care for people" is the only one looking down on others and saying that those who don't agree with him are "sad".

I won't shed my views on the topic, but to everyone arguing...
SHUT UP!
I know people will silence me somewhere, but can we all just give it a rest on these political topics? I know that they often mean no harm, and I agree that open-mindedness is good, yet they seem in a way that all they ever do is cause unrest amongst people, and people are hurt. I've had a bad day and I don't need a place for cheering up and fun to be ruined by people at all sides of the spectrum bickering continuously. You know, if one more thread like this pop up I may bloody well going to leave this site, which isn't fair to Luke, as well as Renata, Aaron and Lindsay (and many other mods and members) who really really try and make this site as nice as possible. And don't anyone give me "but we're fighting for the good of the people" crap. Do something that's for the good of the people and keep the beak shut.

I don't know but I've heard that Cheney was using a 20 gauge and shoot him in the face. That had to hurt. The guy was also about 20 yards away.
Now at that range with a 20 gauge his face should be pretty messed up.

It keeps getting better. Turns out Cheney was hunting ILLEGALLY! He did not have the bird stamp for his hunting license & will receive a warning. He'll send them a $7 check to make it legal for him to hunt birds. No word on how much the stamp is for his license to shoot 78 year old human beings.
