It's all part of the trade that takes Al Michaels to NBC for Sunday Night Football with John Madden. I'm thrilled! The question is, how long will it take Oswald to turn up in a Walt Disney Treasures title?

Wow, that's great news. Hopefully these will end up in the Treasures line eventually. I only hope that whoever it was that had the rights to these shorts up to now kept them in as good condition as Disney has kept theirs.

This is the first time I hear from this character, following some links now I got the main idea about it, this are good news and I shall be waiting for a release of these material...great news, I am already a fan of Oswald

This will definitely be an upcoming Treasure... I'm thinking maybe Wave 7 or 8... depending on what they've got planned for 7.

Wow! I hope Bob Iger should give credit for putting the Oswald cartoons on DVD. I've never seen that cartoon before except one short entitled "The Mechanical Cow" where it was featured on a few $1.00 DVD's. I think the cartoon is still in PD. It was from 1927 and it was made by Walt Disney, but I don't see that cartoon will ended up on its "Treasures" series anytime soon. By the way, if you see the lists of all the Oswald cartoons including the history of the character from the Disney years to the Walter Lantz era where he produced the post-Disney Oswald series from 1929 until it ended in 1943, here it is.

Is this going to make much difference? I just started wondering: Are the Disney Oswalds in the public domain or not? If they are, they can't just be "brought back", can they? The post-Disney Oswalds wouldn't be of much interest.

However, if this is the good news we hope it is, a "Rarities volume two" could include an Oswald section.

Certainly an interesting move, and as a Disney history fan it's exciting.

Always wondered when Oswald would be coming home, guess the answer was 2006.

Now perhaps we shall see a DVD release of the Oswald shorts. It's too bad Disney also didn't acquire the rights to the other Universal cartoons as well, since we might then be treated to a Woody Woodpecker release. I wonder if Disney acquired the rights to all of Oswald's shorts or just the Disney produced shorts? I would hope that Disney acquired the rights to all of Oswald's shorts, and that they will either release these shorts in a set (or sets) all their own, or perhaps as part of the Treasures line. (It might take as many as four Treasures to cover Oswald, since there are 195 Oswald cartoons).

Yup, I guess that solves the mystery surrounding the next Wave.

I'd imagine that Disney will be now as keen to get these out as..er...a really keen thing wanting to get...something. If we don't see them on a Treasure, the most likely option, then we will see them in a dedicated set very shortly. However, with only 10 months until the next wave, let's hope they hold off until 2007 - for every person who is just happy to have the shorts come Christmas 2006, there will be another 10 Netizens waiting to say how 'crap' the restoration is (after only 10 months). Let's hope they take their time so we can see them in as fine a condition as possible (as fine as 80 year old cartoons can get).

Great that such an important part of the Disney story will finally be available in the Disney stable.

Might be wishfull thinking, but maybe Disney already had started some type of work on an Oswald release from whenever Disney and NBC had agreed upon the trade.

Now Disney has enough shorts to release a Pete Treasure! I'm still in by the fact Oswald is coming home. I wonder if Disney will also realese the Winkler & Lantz shorts.

Leave to the nerds at UD and cartoon forums to get excited about Disney getting a throw-in 80 year ago cartoon character in a trade of one of the most notable sports announcers today.

Maltin is right about Oswald The Lucky Rabbit who is the key character of the creation of four different cartoon studios (Disney, Warners, Lantz & MGM).

I don't know if this will give enough time for Wave VI but I expect Wave VII to have some Oswald love.

It would be quite all right for Disney to release all (or as many as possible) of the Oswald shorts, but surely only a handful of those 195 would ever belong in the Walt Disney Treasures.
