I had no idea that Walt Disney had so many Oscar nominations!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, John Williams has notched a record-breaking Oscar performance for composers. Taking a pair of best original score nominations for his work on Memoirs of a Geisha (a Golden Globe winner last month) and Munich, Williams now boasts 45 music nominations, breaking a tie with the late Alfred Newman.

Williams now stands in second place among all-time Academy Award nominees, behind only Walt Disney's 59. "I honestly haven't done all that counting", Williams said. "It always feels new and a wonderful honor to receive these things. It's a fresh feeling."

If he writes at least one Oscar nominated score for the next 16 years, he'll beat Disney. But it would be a nice succession. The reigning king of family fare turning over the "throne" to the reigning king of movie music...
