Well, kiddies......... those horrific visions I had of Bambi, Thumper and Flower line-dancing in their ghetto-rap outfits with Britt-nnnneighhhhh caterwauling in the backround this past year were all for naught. Courtesy of a friend, I got to watch "Bambi II" and I ***coughcoughchokeonwords*** actually liked it quite a bit. I'm not gonna give away all the goodies-would'nt be fair to all my fellow "Mousies" to spew out any spoilers- but I can tell you this......aside from a few issues that sorta chapped my inner child, this is simply the best DTV that "The House of Mouse" has ever released. The animation is every bit as good as alot of the recent theatrical films , the backrounds and overall colors quite dazzling and gotta admit the voice cast is excellent. Story-wise, well....that's one of the things that I still ain't all that thrilled about . Despite having been "kiddiefied" from a book that was essentially written for adults, the original "Bambi" was still a wonderful film that catered to both ends of the age spectrum, a talent that Uncle Walt had in spades. This midquel is squarely aimed at the lunchbox-tetherball set to the point that unless you're a complete animation nut like moi, you might find one or two scenes a bit too cloyingly ooky to your liking. Still, it's heads and tail above any of the previous DTV "Twosies" and even a few of the "Feature" flicks released over the past 15 years, and I honestly think you guys are gonna love it. One bone of contention I have however, are the songs.Weak, formula-laden "contemporary" numbers so cookie-cutter bland that they'll sound dated by this time next year, a mistake you don't want to make on any film. That was one of the most wonderful things about the original ...even more than sixty years after it's release, the songs were so well written that they sound just as good now as they did then. Second b.o.c. I have is in regards to some of the character animation ie: Ronno, the porcupine and the groundhog, especially Ronno. I caught a teensy bit of "let's throw this in or that it and see if we can make it stick" type attitude that just did'nt grab me the way it should've..."Bullyboy"Ronno and the way he was drawn just did'nt strike a chord for me. On the other side of the coin, The Great Prince looked gorgeous as did the other deer.......Friend Owl was drawn absolutely spot on, though Thumper and Flower did look nice they still did'nt look quite enough like their original incarnations to retain all their charms. As for Bambi himself, well.......let's just say that 90% was beautifully done, but unfortunately the animators' attempts to "modernize" his facial expressions just didn't cut the mustard.

Still, it's a alot better than I'd figured it would be and it's definitely worth a watch or two.

this is great news! maybe now Disney will reconsider the jump to all CG movies...

I hope they do.
It woukd be nice something like one 3D movie and one 2D each year(one for summer and one for winter maybe) so they could do both animations

I just returned from Paris and they are marketing Bambi II as Bambi 2 and they will have a gallery of production art showing at one of the many museums in the city. Plus I think the movie will be in the theaters first and not straight to DVD like in the USA. I may be wrong but I didn't notice anything that mentioned Disney DVD.

actually, is being marketed(does that word exist, if not I sorry) as Bambi 2 The Great prince of the forest.
And that`s exactly what I have bneen saying all this time, only US will have the DVD first n_n

I didnt notice the "great Prince" part on the bus signs that i saw. I just saw a big fancy 2 next to the word Bambi. Hey, I'll be in Guadalajara (actually outside in Atotonilco el Alto) in 2 1/2 weeks for my sister in law's wedding. It was cold in Paris, it's cold in Pennsylvania and I'll be glad to feel some warmth in Mexico.

That was exactly my observation: the porcupine, the gopher, and Ronno were drawn at typical DTV quality. All the other characters were drawn exceptionally well.

well, I suggest you to take a sweater or a jacket with you, brcause it`s kind of freak this time. at mornings its cold and at midday is hot, but you`ll enjoy it n_n

Suprising enough though I still haven't preodered the DVD... I acutally got to wait until I get paid, buy my fuel gauge and see if I still have enough which I'm sure to do because I got my college refund. Whoooo-yeahhhh!!!
With less than 15 days left to go I'm totally siked now.

I've seen the movie as well and loved every minute of it. I especially love the last two scenes. The animation is beautiful and the casting is quite good in my opinion. Definitely worth buying.

If you all want a sample of the animation let me know...

i'm sooooooo excited for this release! everything sounds like it came together right, and the fact that disney is only going to ship it out for 70 days here. i'm hoping that it'll sell really well!

Just 2 more weeks... 2 more. Dang I always remind myself that I have an exam that day. Need to think positive.

I have to wait another 10 days after is released the DVD, but for watching it on the tehaters is totally worthy

I am lookign forward to getting it! I hope I'll be able to get it right away as well!

OMG...I don't believe I am saying this, but I think I am buying BAMBI II now on DVD. Come on peeps everyone knows that DISNEY has the wost DTV DVDs ever, but this may all change come Feb. 7th. BAMBI is one of my all time favs. for Disney. I saw the 11 min. video of this on the site, and it looks like the original. It could also be a little toward kids, but we are never too young for DISNEY. This might be the BEST DTV EVER!! It's getting good reviews too.
