Poor Guru is now banned.
Well I guess that is what happens when Secret Santa dosn't work well.

The Secret Santa worked, he just didn't deliver his gift but got a free one in return. What does that say about your character when you do things like that? Think about it. That's why he was banned.
I still agree that it's a mystery because he's been here for a long time and he was always friendly. But there has been no word from him in a while which is disturbing. Christmas has come and gone and Luke did set a deadline to ship the packages. He didn't make the deadline, he didn't even ship anything at all, so he got canned.
So I guess it really doesn't matter how long you've been at UD or how many post you have. Anybody can be a crook which is the reason why it's so hard to screen people for these kinds of activities.
On the bright side this years SS was a 29/33 (which is about 87%) success and that's what really matters.

Poor Guru? I say poor Paka, who got stiffed. I hate to see Guru leave as much as anyone else, but the blame isn't with the Secret Santa program. It's with Guru, who was given chance after chance to send a gift to not one, but two different recipients. He never came through. The penalty for stiffing someone was announced in the very first post so everyone who signed up was aware of it:
Luke wrote:The first year of doing this, we had one deadbeat who thought it would be like totally cool to get a present at a PO Box and like totally not send anything out himself, coming up with lots of excuses. He go bye-bye! We had no problems whatsoever last year and I don't expect any this year. If your idea of holiday fun is cheating someone out of a present and not giving something to the person you're assigned, you can be sure that you will no longer be a part of this forum. In the unlikely event that you get stiffed, let me know, and I'll make sure you don't come away empty-handed.
I realize you didn't participate this year, but that's no reason to knock the program, especially since you don't have first-hand experience with how wonderfully the program succeeded overall (as all the recipients can attest). I'm a bit baffled as to how anyone can think it's okay to stiff someone and not suffer any consequences. Or am I just misreading your post?

That's right, Aaron. You misred my post. I never knocked the program.

Second, I did not make this thread to complain about the Secret Santa. I made this thread so people could know he was banned and why.

Yeah, I hated to have to ban the guy, but them's the rules and there's no way around that. He even got more of a chance than most since I assigned him a new recipient in December when it became clear that he wouldn't have sent his gift out in time for Christmas and that his initially assigned recipient was indeed trying to cheat the system. Even after being banned earlier in the week, he had one last chance today, which he didn't take advantage of. At least now he won't have to come up with new excuses for not coming through; I'm sure it's gotten more challenging as time passed and nothing showed up.
All in all, there were four participants (out of 33) who did not send gifts. Only two of them received gifts (Disney Guru and Disneybell) and they have been banned. So has the third, lolopimp, who shouldn't have been cleared to participate in the first place and who conveniently "disappeared" (really just been ignoring e-mails and PMs). The fourth, orestes., has not been banned. He just honestly hasn't been heard from and we're all hoping he's okay.
But yes, that's the way the gift exchange program works. I took care of the two people who didn't get gifts, so no one got cheated, but three people did try to, for whatever reason, take advantage of the system to benefit themselves. Those people are no longer welcome on this forum. I do hope they can discover some remorse and spring a conscience in the near future, nonetheless.

Okay. In that case, I'm sorry. I took the wording to mean the contrary and was too quick to type out a response. My apologies.

Well at least future survivors will be easier to play.
Being serious- I liked Disney Guru. Reading his posts in the past and talking with him in the chat room a couple times, he seemed like a nice guy. Quite a shame he didn't do what he was told since he seemed like a guy who wouldn't do that.

Oh well, if he must be banned, he must.
I also enjoyed lolopimp. Kinda sad to see him banned too. But it's just necessary I guess.
But in the end I'm glad Paka and the other person got their presents and hope it'll turn out better next year.

Like what Luke said Disney Guru did have one last chance to mail the gift but he never did.
Now I'm going to miss Chris Johnson.

Well... this is a suprise.
I didn't expect DG to not send his gift, did he say why he didn't send it? Because me and him have been doing some trades lately and he has always sent me the items.

Well, thinking about this there was no reason for Guru to do this. Especially since there WAS communication between him and Luke. And besides, if he had a "problem" he could have just sent his gift back.
So obviously he did it on purpose; there's no other reason.

He told me that he had sent it, but Paka had never received it, and that he didn't want to have to send another item.
But you can't tell if he was lying or telling the truth.

Yes, and he also ordered lolopimp's present from Amazon with 1-day shipping in the middle of December.
And then two days later, he ordered lolopimp's present via a wholesale distributor and received a "slight back-order." And then he put the order on hold when he was tipped off that lolopimp was a deadbeat.
And then in early January, he was sending out a $25 Amazon gift certificate (via US mail for some unknown reason), but was too busy to do it just yet.
And then in mid-January, he was sending out $25 cash.
And now, no response to my follow-up e-mail and I hear indirectly that the post office must have lost it.
See a pattern here?

Besides... if that was true (that the order got lost) he could have sent Luke proof that he did send it.
Or just send back what he got, as I said before.

Well, I read the title of this thread, and I was very surprised. Even more surprised when I read the reasonings. Guru never seemed like the type of person who would do something like this. If I may re-word a Desperate Housewives quote: "It's the age old question, isn't it. How much do we really want to know about our fellow UD members?"

I thought the Secret Santa looked fun, but I am always lousy on buying gifts with Secret Santa so I thought better not to join.

Lol! I just came to this thread to say the exact same thing! Yesterday, I was on AIM, and I IM'd him. I mentioned UD, and he said "Oh" and then told me to do something nasty to myself. Apparently he wasnt the person we thought he was.....

I'm guessing that he's a bit upset that he's been rejected (though I have to admit, he had it coming). And I think that he is somewhat
depressed by life, so perhaps the expulsion has made him even angrier.
Well, I'll start to post my opinions on this matter. This truly is a shock to all of us, but I'm going to be blatant here and say that when I saw his "I will post XYZ" reply, I cynically wondered if he wasn't going to do it (I sometimes doubt even innocent people due to past experiences). It seemed as though I was right.
EDIT: And by the way Paka, I'm sorry that the whole not receiving thing happened to you. You of all people didn't deserve it.
