From Jerry Beck at CartoonBrew.com
Yesterday, Amid and I joined Roy Disney, Don Hahn, David Stainton, Leonard Maltin and several others at a preview screening of a wonderful new Disney short, THE LITTLE MATCHGIRL, based on the classic Hans Christian Andersen story. We'll discuss the film in a forthcoming post... but while there we heard some news we hadn't read elsewhere: Starting this summer, Disney will be making all its Oscar-winning (and Oscar-nominated) shorts available on iTunes - for Internet downloading to iPods and the like. Yes, Der Fuehrer's Face will be available to carry around in your hand - along with The Three Little Pigs and Destino. The films willl be released in waves and not all at the same. At the same time, a DVD boxed set will be released with the same content. This is great news. It'll be fun to have It's Tough To Be a Bird on my iPod.
This really IS great news,

Like the idea of downloadable shorts, it might actually make go out and buy an IPod. Better yet, I like the idea of a DVD of all those shorts. Granted, many of them are already available on DVD, but there are several that are not (Three Orphan Kittens immediately comes to mind, along with Destino). I wonder if this will be included in the next wave of Treasures.

My interest is piqued for a release of Mother Goose goes Hollywood and No Hunting. :D

maybe this may be a chance to get a few of the repeated shorts remastered in a better way than in the treasures too? :-D

Can downloadable ipod videos be viewed on a PC? I don't have an ipod at the moment but would be willing to pay to download some of those shorts if I could watch them on my PC.

I would also definitely consider buying DVDs too - although I would prefer maybe a boxset with all of them on rather than several releases.

I hope stuff like John Henry, Destino, Lorenzo, The Three Pigs and The Little Match Girl make it to this dvd. The general audience never really gets to see them. And I'm not paying to see crap like Raising Helen to get to see one.
