Who is Next at Bat?
The latest Batman villain rumors.
by Stax
January 12, 2006 - A scooper has advised Moviehole of two actors who might be frontrunners for villain roles in the next Batman film. The report requires one to read between the lines; I have and here's what I've determined.
For the femme fatale role, Moviehole's source claims that "this is the first screen appearance for this character in the Batman films and she has a very close connection with a major character in Nolan's first Batman movie. She will be out for revenge against Bruce Wayne and Gotham in a major way."
The unnamed actress is said to be a SAG and Golden Globe nominee who is currently five months pregnant. "She will be in tip top fighting shape once production begins to roll early next year but not before she throws a few coins in a fountain."
That actress would be Rachel Weisz, a nominee for her role in The Constant Gardener, who is pregnant with the child of Darren Aronofsky, who directed her in The Fountain.
But which character is the scooper referring to? The most likely choice seems Ra's Al Ghul's daughter Talia, given that "she has a very close connection with a major character" in Batman Begins and is "out for revenge against Bruce Wayne and Gotham."
For the role of The Joker, the big-name actor that Warners and director Christopher Nolan are said to be eyeing "has a major film coming out this summer and it's a sequel to one of his biggest hits. In fact, his performance in the first movie was nominated for an Oscar."
That actor, of course, is Johnny Depp, an oft-mentioned fan fave to play The Joker.
Moviehole's source adds that "rumor is that he might be interested depending on the script, which is being written right now."

I'd rather have Adrien Brody, he looks much more like a Joker to me.

Depp? Eh, it'll work. I guess I just hate it when all my favorite actors get the bad guy roles.

Why have the same villain in two different movies? Where's the Mad Hatter?
I mean we got...
Joker - Batman
Penguin - Batman Returns
Cat Woman - Batman Returns
Two Face - Batman Forever
The Riddler - Batman Forever
Dr. Freeze - Batman + Robin
Poison Ivy - Batman + Robin
Bane - Batman + Robin
Scare Crow - Batman Begins
Now we need Mad Hatter!!!

Im glad the joker may be getting another role in the movie.

Yeah seeing Joker is good but we still haven't seen the Mad Hatter yet... so I'm pissed.
Other than the Joker he was another one of my favorite villains.

It makes sense that the Joker is going to be in the next film. There was that set-up at the end of Batman Begins.
I think Johnny Depp would make a great choice. He can play "odd" characters, very well. He impressed me in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which became one of my favorite films of 2005. Since we are not supposed to associate the previous films with the new films, it would be interesting to see The Joker develop, much like we saw Bruce Wayne develop into Batman.
Of course, Jack Nicholson did such a great job as The Joker in Batman, that it will be hard for anyone to live up to his version. So, someone just as crazy as Jack Nicholson would have to be chosen to be the new Joker, and I think Johnny Depp would fill that role, well.

I think Katie Holmes said she wouldn't be returning...and she does leave at the end of the movie.

Well I wouldn't want whoever played Willy Wonka in Charlie and the Choclate Factory to play the Joker, because Depp was terrible in that role.

Depp is awesome for the role! Trust me, this guy can play almost any character he's given, and every time he hits the nail on the head. I doubt that Jonny can't play twisted and evil. He's just never gotten a chance. He's played twisted very well up until now (Jack Sparrow, Willy Wonka). All he has to do now is to turn his 'good' attitude into an 'evil' one. This is one of my most anticipated movies, and with all the cast returning, I just can't see them dropping the ball with this one. I guess we shall just have to wait and see though...
I will say this though, Nolan is the best thing that happened to the Batman franchise in a long time, and I'm glad Warner are recognizing this talent by letting him continue with his work.

Yeah I can see him playing the Joker but he's more of a good guy than a bad guy. So I guess this movie will be a remake of Batman? I mean in Batman we saw how the Joker came to be a villain. Are they going to show that in this movie as well were he get thrown into a vat of chemicals? Because if that's the case then I can tell you right now that the original is far better.
Michael Caine is going to play Alfred again. Will Morgan Freeman come back as well?
Were's the Mad Hatter???

How do you figure?
It will no doubt be different since in Begins we see Chill murdering Bruce's parents, thus already contradicting the original. Moreover, in the end the Joker is already existing as his twisted self (supposedly he's one of the psycos that broke loose), so there goes another similarity the two might share.
