It seems like Disney is making lots of sequals now trying to take advantage of the home DVD market. I think they are doing 2 or 3 a year, with Bambi II getting ready for release, and I also believe Brother Bear 2 comes out soon

Usually, sequels come out of the vault when the originals do.

But, and that is a big BUT - The sequels are never as good as the original except for those sequels that made it to the theater such as "Rescuers Down Under", and "Return to Never Land".

I avoid all sequels - anything that is direct-to-video can't be all that good.

I love the Rescuers Down Under :) I also the Lion King sequels especially the 1 1/2. I have been searching for the Beauty and the Beast Enchanted Christmas but havent had much luck. I dont want to pay a big outrageous price for it though. :(

The Rescuers Down Under is a sequel or an animated classic?

Actually, "Return to Neverland" was never intended to be in theaters. It was originally going to be straight to video, but Disney has an unofficial rule where they have to released at least 1 film in theaters during February and since they had nothing to release, they decided to release this into theaters.

Since RTN was somewhat successful, they tried to do the same thing with, "The Jungle Book 2". However it flopped. Ever since then Disney decided to release all future sequels straight-to-video.

it seems that disney is releasing sequels for almost all classic titles, but neither of them (to me) are better to the first movie....

So many people protested against it, Disney decided not to make it.

Is it true that there's going to be a sequel for Hercules?

My favorite DTV sequel is Beauty & The Beast: The Enchanted Christmas. It really is a midquel though like Bambi 2.

there was a DTV release that was the pilot episodes for it's TV show. i think anyway. a sequel to this film wouldn't be a bad idea in my book. there are tons of ways you could use hercules as an adventure hero and prolly make a not so bad story. also since the animation is somewhat newer it wouldn't be hard to copy the style of the film.

i would also be ok with more sequels to the rescuers, the great mouse detective, and alice in wonderland.

actually i think a alice in wonderland sequel could be made pretty easily. she could enter wonderland through the looking glass and then experience more adventures that weren't in the original. i think it'd also be neat to have that scene where she discovers that maybe it all wasn't a dream.

I always wondered why they didn't do an Alice Through the Looking Glass sequel to Alice in Wonderland? They could do it as a new animated classic. Did this happen, and I never heard about it....or was it ever a project in the works?

Some of the best sequels, people now seem to forget were sequels. The Winnie the Pooh short features that were finally grouped together to make The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. Each sequel seemed to maintain a consistent high quality.

The Black Cauldron is another area where a sequel is justified. The Chronicles have many other stories that would lend themselves to being animated and with today's computer animation and the special effects that it can create would allow some of the more fantastic elements to be brought to life.

I also love the retelling of classics with Mickey, Donald and Goofy and their friends. The Prince and the Pauper, The Three Musketeers and The Christmas Carol are timeless adaptations of some of the best stories in lterature. I would love to see more videos like these ones.

I like pretty much all of the DTV sequels, as it does allow a new opportunity to spend time with some of the characters that you really have grown to love. Personally I hope that Disney keeps making more TV episodes of the Lilo and Stitch series and that they keep producing more sequels like Stitch has a Glitch and Stitch!

So I say keep on with the sequels.
