That bear is Humphrey and two of his shorts ("Hooked Bear" from the logo above and "In the Bag") appear on the recently-released Disney Rarities Walt Disney Treasures tin. It's not a stupid question or even that uncommon - many people have fond childhood memories of Humphrey and aren't quite sure where they discovered him. It's curious how his shorts stick with people so well.

Buzz Buzz. We haven't reached any of them yet in the Chronological Donald boxsets. They should be in the next one (#3) I figure...

Oh I remember that little bee. He was always good for a laugh!

I didn't remember Humphrey much from just his name but when I saw his two cartoons on Rarities I remembered watching them way back. It was a hoot getting to watch Lambert the Sheepest Lion and Morris the Midget Moose. Two of my all time favorite cartoons!

There was a series of short cartoons done by the Lantz studio in the sixities with a similar Bear (Fatso) and Ranger (Willoughby). The same Jack Hannah was the lead director of this series as he worked for Lantz/Universal after Disney stopped consistently making animated shorts.

My memory is vague of these cartoons but for the most part, I remembered these cartoons to rather lame and did not match the Humphrey Bears with Disney. Of course, most of animated shorts in the sixities can be described as lame.

For those of you who still buy VHS tapes of Disney product, there is a great collection of Buzz Buzz and Donald Duck available (basically used) called "Donald's Bee Pictures". If you look through your local used Video dealers you can usually find them pretty easily. Our Blockbusters here in Wichita all have the complete Disney Gold collection on VHS including the 'Bee' pictures, but they won't part with them because they know that they aren't available on DVD yet. As the product becomes available on DVD then they sell the VHS tapes for $1.99.

Visit some of your local used dealers, and also check out Blockbuster and Hollywood Video since they are basically not renting VHS tapes anymore and you might be surprised as to what you will find.
