I've been looking to buy some noise canceling headphones lately. I've researched some brands on cnet, including the Bose quietcomfort 2, the Sony MDR NC50 and the Sennheiser PXC 250. I know I can't buy the bose, even if its the best noise canceling headphone, because it costs 300 bucks. So its a toss between the Sony and the Sennheiser and possibly other headphones. The sony heaphone seems uncomfortable, and the Sennheiser doesn't fit over your ear, instead, the headphone sit on top of your earlobe, which I imagine is uncomfortable. (I haven't tried any on though) Does anyone own any noise canceling headphone and tell me whats it like, and whats the best noise canceling headphone (excluding the bose).

do they HAVE to be noise canceling? Because I would suggest you get a pair of Bose TriPorts because the sound on those is the best I've ever heard.

yeah, I also considered the triport, but from a lot of reviews, they appear to not have good durability and breaks apart easily after a couple of months...

What I like to know is why pay so much money for headphones? If it bothers someone sucks to be them although I shouldn't say that. Because my roommate had a pair of headphones that made a lot of noise, he kept me up until 3 in the morning. But still I think paying that much for headphones is outrageous.

My main aim is to get noise canceling headphones. I really want to own a pair. But, I also like the bose triport headphones, which aren't noisecanceling. So its between the sony MDR NC50 headphones and the triport. They are around the same price, but the sony has noise canceling ability. I'm not sure about the audio, but does anyone here own sony MDR NC50 noise canceling headphones and tell us what its like?

Hey, I have Sony MDR-NC6 Noise Canceling Headphones that I got for Christmas in 2004 and they are great! They're perfect for music listening, DVD watching, computer working, etc. Dad thinks those are so great he got the same type of headphones for Christmas this year! Dad and I have yet to use them on the inflight entertainment system!

Sorry...I DO have the Bose QuietComfort 2. Not something I would have EVER bought for myself, but I got them as a Christmas present, so why look a gift horse in the mouth? Pricey? You bet...but boy do they sound amazing. The noise cancelling technology is pretty impressive as well. I can't hear a thing when I use them at work. The phone sits right in front of me and I miss call after call when I'm listening. Great for airplanes, as well.

hm... I looked on the radioshack ad and they seem to have Koss Quiet Zone Noise Canceling Stereophones only sale for 60 bucks. It also seems like good headphones, so I might buy that

actually, now that I think of it, I would have to say Bose headphones (triport and quietcomfort 2s) are way overpriced. You can buy the same quality of headphones WITH more durable build at like a 1/5 of the price. Take for example, the sennheiser The Bose Triport cost 150 while such superior models such as the Sennehsier HD201 costs 30 bucks while the Grado Lab sr60 costs 70 bucks. ITs all because Bose has the ability to advertise their products in newspapers and magazines, and trick people into buying the products, while other companies such as Grado, Sennheiser, Shure, Etymotic don't have the privilage, yet all those companies have superior products at much lower prices than the Bose...
