With Disney, there's always endless possiblities in regards to their video collections. From what the interview with Don Hahn at dvdfile.com, more titles could be added to the Platinum line. So, which one would you like?

i've always had a slight fascination with Disney's Pocahontas. i'd like for it to go platinum but am content with the 2-disc special edition that will be coming out next year. i expect some of these movies (like Mulan, Tarzan, maybe even Oliver & Company) will probably be released as 2-disc special editions within the next few years. with the quality of the special edition series improving (look at the latest release of Sleeping Beauty, for example), the line between Platinum and Special Edition are being blurred.

Take what Lady said in the post above, change Pocahontas to Alice in Wonderland, and you have my thoughts. I'd love for Alice to go Platinum, but I think I'm going to be extremely satisfied with the January SE, so Alice going Platinum isn't a big dream for me.

I'm content with the Platinum line being as it is now, but I'd really like to get the double-disc Hunchback of Notre Dame deluxe edition that was announced and then pulled within hours.

Because a few of those already have SEs announced, and because I'm furious with the existing piece of trash that I have, my vote is for The Rescuers.

I voted for Pocahontas. Personally, I think it is a great film. First of all, Pocahontas won two Academy Awards. However, I'll be happy with the soon to be released 2-Disc Set next year. I'm looking foward to all 8 Broadway-style musicals being released as Special Editions, especially Pocahontas, Mulan, and Hercules.

Alice in Wonderland, no doubt.

My vote was for Tarzan. What a great movie! Though Alice would come in close second.

Alice in Wonderland!!! Although i'm hoping that the upcoming 2-disc edition will be like Sleeping beauty's special edition release (which is just as good as batb's platinum release IMHO.)

I would like The Hunchback Of Notre Dame to go Platinum or at least hit a 2 disc Special Edition release! The DVD was WAY to crapy for such a great movie that deserved WAY MORE! This is my third fav Disney movie and the only one not to get a 2 Disc Set!

The one I'd like to have a platinum label - Alice in Wonderland - will actually get better special features in it's 2-Disc SE than it would if it actually were a Platinum release. So I guess I'm just fine with it being an SE.

We have pretty good sets for some of these - especially Tarzan & Dumbo (any DVD with an audio commentary instantly becomes a "good set" IMO).

We are getting 2 disc sets of Pocahontas, Alice in Wonderland & Lilo & Stitch (as I'm sure evryone knows), so I'll wait and see what they are like, but all three are Platinum-worthy IMO, and there are heaps of extras sitting around for all 3 yet to be used, apparently.

Mulan hasn't been given the props it deserves yet, and I look forward to a doco on how they developed the animation style on that.

And if anything deserved a Platinum set it would have to be The Hunchback of Notre Dame (which gets my votes). An absolutely beautiful looking film, which is unfairly maligned and made by a team who have produced some of the best Disney of recent years (including Atlantis, which has a great DVD too!). The DVD is pretty solid now, but I think it is the most worthy of a full-blown SE...

My favorite movie on the list is Alice in Wonderland, but I think that Dumbo is the most deserving so I voted for that on.

Pocahontas was a better movie than the other ones and it 's also a true story.

It also deservse it very much because it made more money then the other ones.

That's right, Pocahontas out-grossed all of the films above. In fact, it took in 140+ million dollars. It must not have sold enough videocassettes to land in the top 14. However, I think Disney wanted a certain amount of titles from each decade or "age" to make the shortlist. Otherwise, I think more of the 90's films (Pocahontas, Mulan, and Tarzan) would have made it.

Eric's theory makes quite a bit of sense. I mean, look below:

30's/40's: 2 (Snow White and Bambi)
50's: 2 (Cinderella and Lady and the Tramp)
60's: 2 (101 Dalmatians and Jungle Book)

Then they skip to the inevitable big four (TLM, B&tB, Aladdin, and TLK).

If Disney were really basing the platinums off their top 10 best sellers, other films such as Fantasia (which has now been added) would've been on the list as they sold extremely well on video. Even with the updated platinums, they still retain a pattern.

Every non-anthology 30's/40's film is now going platinum minus Dumbo.
Every 50's film is now going platinum minus Alice in Wonderland.
Every 60's film is now going platinum minus The Sword in the Stone.

And again we skip ahead to the big four. Obviously more has gone into the arrangement of the platinums then simply the top 10 best sellers. They've chosen the most beloved films of each decade (minus the 70's and most of the 80's) and made those platinum.
