As the years go on, the number of DVD-R's I've made with my DVD Recorder haven't slowed down, and neither have my questions on new techniques/shortcuts, so I've decided to update this thread so myself and others can discuss the ways they make DVD's at home, ask questions about new technologies and share their home movie experiences, etc.

Correct. I found that out the hard way, since I bought a DVD recorder to convert my Disney VHS to DVD...yeah, didn't work out at all. I should have thought out my purchase more, but oh well. I can always record things off of TV now.

Here's an easy solution for you to fix your DVD Recorder so you can record any VHS tape including Disney. My Recorder was the same way and I went to Best Buy and asked about that particular problem and they solved it for me. Buy the Sima-Go! Video Enhancer, it costs about $90 when it is on sale, and it is on sale three weeks out of the month. If you know the person at Best Buy, they will sell it to you at the sale price no matter what the date is. The enhancer hooks up between your video source, which means you will have to use your old VHS player since your new one is built into the set. Place the enhancer in between the video out and the video in on your DVD recorder and you are on your way to recording any and all VHS tapes till your heart's content. It is simple as that.

Thanks for the tips Daryl and Junkie. We have a BB that opened about three months ago 20 miles away from here and one of my dad's best friends works there, so he should be able to hook me up.

Great, and when you get that Enhancer look out........you will become a recording fool. It opens the doors to a lot of things that you can do with your DVD Recorder, your collection will grow as fast as you want it to.

Well, after three months, I've still not yet convinced my parents to buy this. How much does it cost when it's not on sale? Maybe if I give them two solid numbers, they'll cave...

Best Buy sells it for $119.00 plus tax. It is always on sale at least once a month or more, and usually for $89 plus tax. Not cheap, but you will more than pay for it when you start your recording frenzy.

Another question- Yes, I've become a massive procrastinator and still haven't gotten it, mainly because VHS is officially dead now. But I have been experimenting over the weekend, recording a frenzy of films off of Pay Per View. I ordered Good Night, And Good Luck. on Monday, and I got The Producers yesterday. When I went to record these onto DVD, it would give me the same warning that you 'cannot record copy protected movie' and stopped recording after seven seconds. Now, would the doohickey that Junkie recommended to me be able to connect the cable to the thing and then to the DVD Recorder, thus allowing me to record anything off of Pay Per View?

can't you record these movies straight off the tv instead of copying to a vhs tape first

I'm not trying to copy them to tape, I going straight from TV to DVD, but like most films on HBO, they won't record onto DVD.

JM, you have a recorder that won't record copyrighted material and that is why you need the Video Enhancer. Don't put it off any longer, just get to Best Buy and get the thing and all your troubles will be over.

Yes, it will solve that problem. You just hook it into your Video in on your DVD Recorder, no need to worry about the sound, it will record perfectly. Now the enhancer will allow you to record any and all "Copyrighted" material.

Like I said, your collection of DVD's will grown as fast as you can record.

I guess I've been procrastinating because we've been a little tight on money, and since I'm probably the only one in the house who would get use out of it, I'd have to pay for it out of my own pocket. As soon as I hear back from anyone about hiring me somewhere, I'm going to boogie on down to Best Buy in a few weeks with my first couple paychecks.

Interesting...

I finally have enough money to buy the Video Enhancer! I went to Best Buy yesterday to buy it... and they said that they have never carried anything like it and had never heard of such a thing. I clicked on disneyguy's link to Amazon thinking I could buy it there, and it said the link no longer existed.

Did the Sima-Go! Video Enchancer get blacklisted or something? The only place I can find it at online is eBay, and I have a strict anti-eBay policy.

I've been able to transport Dumbo, Chaplin, Winnie The Pooh and some others to dvd, cause they were made before the US placed full laws on bootlegs, so I was kinda lucky. Double check what year the tape was released, mine are late 80's -early 90s. Try converting 'em to another tape then put the film to dvd so far that worked for me on some of the tapes.

Well I'm no longer trying to copy tapes, I'm trying to copy movies off Pay Per View, HBO, etc. Thanks for the tip though.
