Babe: SE... look out!

Bleah... and I thought Disney was bad enough...

Good ol' screwy Universal. Not knowing how the hell to treat their films on dvd most of the time. So we finally get a half-decent treatment for Babe: The Gallant Pig, right? Commentary, couple short featurettes, and games for the kiddies. Be beware when you open the case - in lieu of a proper insert, there's just one long fold-out of an ad for upcoming Universal family stuff - Land Before Time I through MXMLVIII, the Dr. Seuss cartoon releases (I'm all for those, but since these never-before-released dvds are simply promotional bitches for the new live-action Cat in the Hat - aka The Grinch 2 - it's kinda disappointing in that regard), etc. So I guess it's either throw out the damn ads and have a naked inner case, or keep the ads and be Universal's bitch. -_-

But that's not the half of it. When you stick the disc in, you're submitted to forced trailers. Like really, honest to gawd, FORCED trailers. You can't press the menu button, nor skip forward. You have to manually fast-forward through all 8,000 LBT ads, Seuss releases, the trailer for that abominable new Cat in the Hat film, and many more. It's downright disgusting!! I almost wonder if this "Special Edition" of Babe was put out simply as a vehicle for Universal's other family franchises. Bleah... how low can you go?

They had the same forced trailers on the High School Reunion Collection discs. Yuck - that's such a step back. Even with VHS, you could do a Counter Reset and Zero Return so that when you put in the tape, you'd start from the beginning of the movie. Fast-forwarding through these takes however many seconds it takes TOO LONG. Really cruddy, Universal.

And at least Babe got some extra features (and finally, widescreen treatment!). 2 of the Hughes films got a trailer, the other one didn't even get that. If I had paid more than $13 for the set, I'd be more upset than I am.

Good thing that most of the movies I want from Universal are already out or won't be 'important' enough to taint with forced ads.

They're making a Grinch 2? How? What possible storyline is there? And I thought Jim Carrey said they'd never get him into that suit again...

Sixteen Candles.

Forced trailers are okay if they're like Disney's where you can skip each one. But having to manually fast forward them? No, that's just dumb. So is making FBI screens you can't skip. Oh, because people who break the FBI laws are going to think twice if they can't skip the screens.

I'm joking about the Grinch 2 thing, Adam. I was calling The Cat in the Hat a "Grinch 2" because it's the exact same premise - take a popular Dr. Seuss story, throw a well-known comedian into a yak fur suit and make him your main character. Take the short, sweet simplicity of the original story and bloat it into an unrecognizable sham of a film, and you have your "blockbuster".

I mean, obviously another overblown Seuss film would come along after The Grinch did so well at the box office - I had just hoped against hope that wouldn't have happened. :(

I didnt know the Babe movies have been out on DVD on cool editions, yeah all of those cheesy kiddie ads can be annoying (at least I got my Balto 2 dvd really cheap)

My only problem is that all the stores I see the movies being sold at only have them in FULLSCREEN (throws fit!)

Somebody give me the widescreen DVD!!!!
