Pleasure Island may get makeover

"Don't be surprised if the new year brings some changes to Disney's Pleasure Island.
I'm hearing Mouse officials are reviewing the nighttime entertainment complex with the idea of some updates. Given the competition from places like Universal's CityWalk, that's understandable.
Among the things under consideration, I'm told, is opening a bowling alley and dropping the every-night-is-New-Year's-Eve theme, which has been around since 1990.
And, for certain, the West End stage on the Island, where a deejay is often found, is going away to make entering the island easier.
Earlier this year, Disney got rid of the admission charge to the Island, replacing the $20.50 gate charge with individual covers at the clubs."

Hmm...do castmembers still get in free on Mondays and Thursdays?
About time they dumped the deejay, though.
Wonder if they're gonna change Mannequin's, simply so it's not known as the unofficial gay club...

I disagree with implementing separate cover charges for individual clubs--blanket admission was one of the things that made the place fun.
A couple weeks ago I was also dismayed to learn that the Pleasure Island Jazz Company has been remade as an Irish pub & restaurant called Raglan Road. The Jazz Company was always a laid-back place to go & sip a good coffee drink and listen to some really good live music...R.I.P.

Ever go into Mannequins & watch the drunks that fall down on the revolving floor that have a hard time getting up? I dunno- that used to crack me up. I CANT GET UP- THE FLOORS MOVING...
I wonder if they still have the "beach pail" of booze still available...

I always wondered if that had been intended by the folks who designed Pleasure Island, if the whole Captain Adam Merriwether Pleasure (or whoever) backstory was a total dodge for the
Pinocchio reference. I believe I have left with a tail before myself...(or maybe that was World Showcase...)

Jim Hill speculates about the future of Pleasure Island:
What will 2006 bring for the now New-Year's-Eve-free Pleasure Island?
