Does anyone know if this available anywhere aroung them? I really really want this. I was trying to hold out till 2005, when the DVD is suppose to be rereleased, but that, if that is when it's actually released, is just oo far. I really don't want to pay any more than $30 for it, since I know it will be rereleased for like $20, and with possibly/hopefully more on it. So if anyone knows of a place where it is available for $30, and could help me out, by picking it up, I could pay them back plus shipping. If it is more than $30, which it undoubtedly will be, then I'll just wait.

Or if someone has a copy that they want to sell, I would be up for that to, but if it is uded/opened just know I will not pay $30.

If anyone could help me out it would be greatly appreciated.

If you are not able to help out in one of the above 2 ways, but you you have info on the rerelease of this great movie on 2 disc DVD, I would be greatful for that too!

Good luck trying to find an online store that has them in stock. If you're really intent on getting ASAP, I suggest going to Borders. Many a time, I have found long OOP DVDs there - the only disadvantage it that if you found Tarzan there, it'd probably be $40. Or, you could always try Ebay.

When is Tarzan II supposed to come out? It would make sense for Disney to re-release it then.

I want them to rerelease it ASAP just because I refuse to pay $50 for it now.

And Phillip, I doubt you'll be able to find it for $30 unless you get lucky. Most that I've seen are selling for between $40 and $50.

Honestly I think it's too soon since it went into the Vault.
Of course, that's easy for me to say since I've had my copy for three years...but if Disney is gonna put titles away they should keep them there for 7-10 years.

I just saw two copies in our Best Buy when I purchased Sleeping Beauty and I think they were both $39.99. They may have even been $49.99 now that I think of it. I remember being floored at how much it was since I always saw it at $29.99.

Yeah. I know that I am not going to get it for that, so I will just wait.

Tarzan II, as well as Mulan II, comes out next year. I too thought it would be smart of them to rerelease Mualn and Tarzan as CE's to coincide with their sequel releases, but from what I've heard on the subject, that's not the case, but hopefully those sources were wrong and they will come out next year.

No indiana, it's not too soon, cause Disney said that only their platinums would be vaulted for 7 to 10 years and that all other titles would only be on moratorium for 2, so it is definately time for Tarzan as well as Mulan to come on out. I believe that both of these titles were vaulted in 2001, maybe at the beggining og 2002, so it is way passed time for them to be out! Well, maybe not way past time, but it is definately time for them to be rerelesed and 2004 makes the most sense, as it marks, atleast 2 years since they were vaulted plus their sequels are being released. Although it's possible that they will wait so long that by time they rerelease them , they'll be rereleased theri sequels as SE's too! Though I hope it is not that far off!!!

i agree with indiana, i think it's too soon to rerelease it. what's the point of putting it in the vault if it's only going to stay there 2 years.. it kinda defeats the purpose of their "vault" system of releasing movies.

but again, maybe i would think differently if i didn't already have it.

I'd guess that this will be out of circulation for at least 5-7 years. Since it went out of print January 2002 (I think?), that means it will be gone for quite sometime. This was one of my earlier DVD purchases, and I'm glad to have it. It's right up there with Disney's best of a great decade. The supplements aren't as long or entertaining as some of the other ones, but they do add a lot to it - and A/V is just awesome. Great set. Maybe an HD-DVD re-release will be sooner.

isn't seven years the current standard for how long disney movies are planning to be put in moratorium? if that is the case, it would mean that the movie will be re-released on HD-DVD in 2009!

btw, i'm using "seven years" as the ballpark because that is what i recall hearing one of those disney executives saying in an interview. supposedly, seven years maintains exclusivity of the movies while still allowing for another generation of "children" to experience classic Disney films.

there are 2 additional reasons why i doubt we will actually get another release of Tarzan prior to 2008/2009:

1) the first DVD was pretty comprehensive in that it was a full blown 2-disc "collector's edition" with enough extras to appease fans.

2) i doubt Disney will rush to get all their movies out on HD-DVD as soon as the new platform comes out (projected to be 2007). after all, it has taken them a LONG time to get the lion king out on dvd since the format appeared.

Yeah, and we're still suffering from the time they just sat on the format, devoting their resources to DIVX. Good call, Disney.

Disney's obviously trying to carry over their theater re-release tradition to the home video market, and to be honest, I find it kind of annoying. The whole point of video & DVD is to be able to own it, and watch it whenever you want. Disney's plan to take their products on and off the market with gaps that last years completely defies that point. I understand why they are doing it, and how it keep their product from being sold in the bargain bin, but I just find it frustrating.

Well when The Little Mermaid II and Cinderella II came out, they did not re-release the original Classics! So I believe Disney will do the same with these titles! However when The Little Mermaid comes out on DVD again I think they may do a Special Edition Release of The Little Mermaid II if the release is not soon!

Re-releasing Tarzan and playing up Phil Collins' music would have been an ideal oppertunity to cross-promote Brother Bear so it's a real shame they didn't take advantage of it. Listening to the Tarzan soundtrack now is pumping me up for Brother Bear (not to mention making me want to watch Tarzan again. Shame I'm stuck with the VHS.)

Yes, but that is different, as both The Little Mermaid and Cinderella are part of the Platinum Collection.

And as for the 7 to 10 year moratorium, as I mentioned in my above post, Disney announced that that would only pertain to the 10, and now 14, Platinum titles. The rest, including Tarzan and Mulan, would only go on Moraturium for 2 years. That was one of the big things about the Platinum was the longer moraturium.

I figure if they can release SE's of Alice, Pocahontas, and Lilo this January, they can release 2 disc SE's of both Tarzan and Mulan.
And it would not be right to release one and not the other, since they were both vaulted at the same time.

Also it is not fair, that Tarzan was available for less of a time than the other movies that came out with it and are still available now.

If I had my copy right now, I might hold a "Don't Care" attitude, but I certainly wouldn't say it doesn't deserve to be rereleased this soon. I really hope it's released next year but if not, then it better be for 2005, otherwise it's just too long.

5 years would be more reasonable.. i already have my tarzan ce copy, and i would have a hard time justifying purchasing it again next year. they wouldn't have had enough time to add significant features to the dvd that i would be interested in. now in five years, maybe so, but definitely not next year. besides on the 5 year rotation, more people would probably purchase the movie.. that would include people who do not own a copy of tarzan and also more of those who already have copies might be interested in purchasing it again for more features.
