The original Fantasia is one of my favorite Disney movies, but I have not seen Fantasia 2000 so I dont know anything about it. Lately i have pondered buying the Fantasia Dvd until I saw the Fantasia boxset. Does anyone know whether the box set is worth the price, and which one would be the better purchase? OR should i be patient and wait for the Platinum edition to be released in a few years?

The box set is WELL WORTH the price. Many consider it to be the best set Disney has ever produced on DVD. For $50, its a great deal.

The extra disc that comes with the two movies in the box includes:

- In-Depth Exploration Of Segments, Including Storyboards, Concept Art And
- Character Designs
- Special Effects Of Fantasia
- Still Frame Galleries: The Art of Fantasia
- Publicity Material (Trailers/Posters)
- Pencil Tests of Unused Animation
- Exclusive Walt Disney Segments on Tricks of the Trade, The Plausible Impossible and The Story of the Animated Drawing
- Biographies of the Filmmakers
- Historical Context of Each Musical Piece
- “The Fantasia That Never Was” Reconstructed Full Animation And Story Reels (With Music) of Abandoned Ideas for: “Claire de Lune,” “The Ride of the Valkyries,” “The Swan of Tuonela,” “Adventures in a Perambulator,” and “Invitation to The Waltz”
- Still Frame Art – “The Flight of the Bumble Bee”, “Mosquito,” and “Baby Ballet”
- Clair de Lune Animated Segment
- Behind The Scenes Look at Each Segment
- Includes Interviews With the Filmmakers, CGI, Animation Tests,
- Storyboards, Concept Art, and Character Designs
- Production Progression Demonstrations
- Deleted Animation
- Alternate Versions
- Abandoned Concepts
- Publicity Material (Trailers/Posters)
- Historical Context of Each Musical Piece

I wouldn't recommend waiting for the Platinum Edition at all. The plans for this re-release are still very hazy and there's no real word exactly what it will be and what it will include. Also, if you were to wait, it looks as if it would be between 5-10 years before you'd see it (this is coming from various reports of international DVD release plans).

The set that is already available is extremely comprehensive, and plus: it's going out of print in January. I recommend getting this one ASAP. You'll be a happy customer. :)

Good luck finding it for less than $50. I've been seeing it around a few places for upwards of $65-$70 lately. Online might be the way to go if you can get a low shipping rate.

And oh yeah, it's worth it.

I've seen it at Borders, Costco, and Sam Goody for $50 in the past, but they may have recently jacked up the price. I remember someone here made a post about being able to find it on a certain net site for $48.

Right -- Online is the only place to find it for anything close to $50.
A quick search using DVD Price Search yielded the following:

North American DVD $ 44.99
DeepDiscountDVD $ 50.95
Overstock.com $ 49.99
BestPrices.com $ 48.71
Digital Eyes $ 51.98
Playcentric.com $ 52.81
DVDSoon.com $ 52.83

I've already got Fantasia and was going to buy Fantasia 2000. What's the Anthology got that the two together doesn't?

the anthology consists of 3 discs.. fantasia, fantasia 2k, and fantasia legacy.. the 3rd disc is more special features from each fantasia film. there is so much on this set i don't want to type it all, it's definitely worth getting if you are a fan of even just the first fantasia. and definitely go for getting it online. i bought this one when it originally came out, i probably paid ~$40-$50 for it, so those online prices are really good considering it's being sent to the vault in a few months!!

Ok, think I'll have to stick that on my 'buy me for Xmas please' list for my family!!! Cheers cat.

I'm asking for The Fantasia Anthology for Christmas.

I have to agree with the crowd. The Fantasia Anthology is the best DVD product Disney has ever released. As DVDs alone, either Fantasia or Fantasia 2000 is a great buy (multiple commentary tracks and documentaries on each), but the Legacy disc has boatloads of supplemental material. The set is one of the most exhausting yet informative looks at classic Disney material ever produced.

For $50, the set is an absolute *steal*.
