Okay! I was really pumped to get the Disney rarities set cuz I've always wanted to see the Alice cartoons plus get DVD versions of some of the other cartoons that I have on Video. But then I got to Ben and Me! I have this on the old "Disney Mini-Classics" video line that I got for christmas when I was 8 or something and there is a whole section that is on the video that is NOT on this DVD!!!

It tells about Amos mouses family history and is about eight minutes long. Does anyone know why this was cut from the DVD??? I mean there was nothing offensive in it and Lenord Maltin is usually really good about present the full uncut versions on the TReasures line. So does anyone know whats up with this?????

Nothing's cut.
The sequence you're talking about was added as an intro to the cartoon for TV showings, I think in the 1960's.
The DVD seems to have the original theatrical version of the short.
Actually, I was hoping the TV intro would have been included as a separate extra feature.

Agreed. That would have been nice to see the material that was added for TV. Maybe on some future release in a "Disney's America" set...as they are famous for getting us to turn our pockets out twice.

So approximately how long is the version of "Ben and Me" on the Rarities DVD?

You know I did actually check your review first and I didn't see the running time!
I'm going mad in my old age!

The Walt Disney "Fables - Volume 3" DVD (available in region 2 & 4) has this missing 8 minutes of footage.
It is not overly exciting, but is worthwhile to have the background of Amo's family for us completists.

I was thinking that the soon-to-be-released Timeless Tales, Vol. 3 might have the extended version, but checking and calculating running times on the other shorts indicate that it won't be included on that unless A) I did the math wrong or B) the press release was in error.

Most likely the latter since BVHE press releases aren't that reliable anymore.
Anyways, Rarities, as I said in the latest review thread, looks interesting to me, but not enough for me to own it (I'll most likely borrow it from Kram every so often, lol). But I really liked "Ben and Me", so I'll probably buy Timeless Tales V3 just for that cartoon.

When did you ever see it?
I wanna get it for Christmas (HINT HINT) or myself. Chances are I have to buy it myself.
