Snapshut DVD Cases... Who else think they are annoying?

I am so ticked! I cannot stand when Disney has these snapshut DVD Cases on DVDs. I also cannot stand the ones that have a big whole on the side in the middle. I wouldn't mind the big whole with a slipcover but when a DVD doesn't have one, I am afraid that dust will get inside on the DVD bottom. Not only is Disney doing this, other companies as well. :x :?

Yeah.....what's a snapshut case?

As far as I know, there's the following:
Snappers
Amarays
Dual Amarays
Alphas
Double Alphas
Slimcases
Double Slimcases
Digipaks
Digistaks

are you talking about the DVDs with the snap tabs on the sides of them that you have to "unlock" before you open them? I can't stand those either.

Tear the tabs off? Not like they're steel reinforced or anything...

Tear 'em off, like DaveWadding said.

What "hole" do you mean? Are you talking about the one that you put your fingers in and pull the DVD case open? Um, dude, if it weren't for those, you wouldn't be able to get to your DVDs in the first place.

What I can't stand is when they put holes in the slipcover so that the barcode can be seen through it, but it's no big deal.

Since we're adding to "what I can't stand..."

What I can't stand is slipcovers in general. It's like condoms for DVDs: 99% protective because they cover the product and it helps against spreading STDs, 1% defective because they can tear and because they really don't protect as well as people think they do.

What I can't stand is FBI warnings in the beginning of DVDs. Hello, I bought the DVD! I doubt I'd wanna make a lesser copy of it on DVD again!

What I can't stand is going to Wal-Mart, Target, Sam's Club, etc., checking the new releases, and seeing endless piles of Pan and Scan DVDs, with the Widescreens tucked at the bottom or to the side.

What I can't stand is ignoramus fools who I can listen to when I'm standing next to them looking at DVDs and they go, "Geez, why do they have to have widescreen? Where's the fullscreen one?"

What I can't stand is new releases with ridiculous initial SRPs and the movie isn't worth it anyway.

What I can't stand is 2-disc editions that have very little bonus features. The Deer Hunter, for example, has a second disc with...get this...deleted scenes and a trailer.

What I can't stand is when a movie has craptastic bonus features that aren't worth watching anyway and they still can't find room for the damn trailer.

What I can't stand is when a movie is released barebones, followed by a spectacular 2-disc edition, only to be followed by a subpar standard edition again (Tarzan, TENG....)

What I can't stand is these new dual releases of standard and 2-disc edition, and many stores choose to carry the standard edition and it's a bitch to find the 2-disc edition half the time.

What I can't stand is TV shows on DVD that I can't afford because they put too steep a pricetag on them (STAR TREK)

What I can't stand is that lesser TV shows are getting released on DVD while other still are waiting for their first season (or one-season-wonder complete series) to appear (Come on, who's really gonna buy Titus, Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica, or Trippin' the Rift? Where the hell is I Dream of Jeannie: Season One? Better yet, what about Jack & Bobby: The Complete Series! Or Square Pegs: The Complete Series!)

Totally agree Escapay! They need to put the CLASSICS on TV first before the other...stuff. I was rotfl-ing when you compared condoms and slipcovers!

Oh, those snap locks on the side of the DVD are for security purposes in store and in home. I didn't like them, at first. Then Ryan's little cousin (who I still adore) managed to grab some DVDs off the shelf and tried opening them, but he couldn't! Oh what a brat he was at the age of 2. But yah...that's when I started liking those annoying snapshut things.

and lets not forget how ugly the cases look if you take the tabs off the case...;) :p

Yeah I've always hated that you had to unlock it 3 TIMES! Yeah I know they're not cemented on there, but it looks better to have them on! I don't care about my cases to much(because remember people, we buy them for the discs ) but I want my covers to look as nice as possible!

I don't see why they have to make them in the first place!

Quick Question: "The Incredibles" and "Vintage Mickey" are the only ones I have that have straps on them! What are the other ones?

I think it depends where and when the discs were made and packaged.

I first bought Mary Poppins the week it came out in December 2004, and it had sidesnaps, but later copies I saw in both WDW and NJ several months later had regular cases.

I bought the following all at WDW:
Pooh's Heffalump Movie
The Incredibles
Pocahontas
National Treasure

And Pooh's Heffalump Movie was the only one without sidesnaps. But when I saw most of these at Wal-Mart when I came back to NJ, they were regular cases.

So maybe it's just initial cases, since that's the time when stealing the disc may be highest....

What I can't stand is when DVDs are Flipper Discs (Casino, Cinderella Man)

Bwahaha, I love flippers (except when they're DSSL. That's practically saying they were too lazy to make it SSDL).

I'm not so sure that's a good idea. Because there are holes under the snap-tabs so that they'll fit and dust will get into the case / on the disc if you rip them off - same problem as the hole in the middle minus the slipcover to patch that up. I haven't torn off the snap-tabs on the 2 DVDs I have with them on it because of the dust and the ugly issue.

WOW, I didn't mean for everone to rip my head off :o lol.
I was just stating what annoys me with my DVD Cases. :D

The hole I am talking about is on the side of the case where you open the DVD up. They never used to have this. It's the big gap in the middle. I'm sure someone knows what I am talking about. :)
They have an opening where the bottom of the DVD can get dust on it. The Straw Berry Shortcake DVDs have them, and the new Barbie movies now to as well. Disney has some of these on there DVDs.
I've noticed Walmart has it more than Target does. :)

I like digi-packs a lot better. So simple and easy to open.

If I understand you, I think the hole you're talking about is so the rental stores can put some kind of "lock" in there to keep the case from being opened at the store. Then they remove the lock at the checkout. The Star Wars OT set from last year had the "holes" on the side of the case.

I can live with the side tabs or snaps, slipcovers, meaningless second bonus disc features, steep original release MSRPs (they cost less $10 from Amazon marketplace within three months), and high price TV DVD if it is good enough material. (Star Trek or the Twlight Zone. Of course I have yet to purchase either one.)

But I don't like Flippers. Since I store DVDs in CD holders, I have to expose one side of the DVD to the elements. (It is either store in a holder or stop buying due to space constraints and I can't do that.) The original flippers that the WB or MGM used to release with widescreen/fullscreen was fine. But now Warners, MGM, and especially Universal will stuff these flippers with two, three, four or even five movies. That means I have very good movies exposed. Like Marx Brothers, Corman's Poe cycle, and loads of old Universal horror. I almost bought two copies of a Marx Brothers set because just so I had protected copies of At The Circus and The Big Store until I rationalized how medicore these movies really are. (But they are still the Marx Brothters!!!)
