With the release of the fifth wave of Walt Disney Treasures just days away, Leonard Maltin, the host and supervisor of this much-praised and highly collectible DVD series, took a few moments to talk with UD. Thanks Luke. Would have been nice if he could be more specific, but I understand that stuff needs to come out by press release. Nice to see the Treasures are open ended for now.

He referanced them a couple of times as a future title he'd like to see. His answers were a little tight for the same obvious reasons as any other person (Jerry Beck, etc) involved and contracted by studios to lend insight and a hand in production of future titles. There are financial factors and business politics to consider. It sounded like a strong candidate for an upcoming wave though. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it turned up next year!

Bravo! A really good interview and everything I was most interested in hearing was asked. He obviously didn't feel like he was allowed to give a lot of specifics; either that, or there just really is nothing pre-planned, but it was very nice to see the general kinds of things that are on his mind, and that he doesn't expect anything to disrupt the continuation of this line. It's clear that he really is a true blue Disney fan and these projects mean a lot to him. And UD having an interview with him is very cool!

That was a fun read. Leonard's always an interesting person to hear from, and I'm sure it was fun to talk to him. I wish he would've given more details, but I understand why he didn't.

Having met Leonard Maltin several years ago, I found the interview to be quite entertaining. He is such an easy person to talk to and so real. It actually sounded like him talking as I was reading the interview. He was very informative while being very closed about future releases, but he was able to voice his choice if he was in charge. Great interview and I hope that it isn't the last one you do with him. He is very informative and very knowledgeable about all ends of the Hollywood scene as we know it today.

As for the discussion of 2-D ink and paint cels and the current CG 'toons, "Family Guy" and "The Simpsons" are still hand drawn 2-D and then CG'd to video for presentation. They still represent the last bastion of the ink and paint cartoons that we all love. If they ever went total CGI I think that would signal the end of the 2-D process as we know it.

My lone protest against 3-D CGI is I won't ever own "Mickey Twice Upon A Christmas" DVD. The characters are two 'forty-ish' looking for me to get by the fact that they are Disney. That is why I was so apprehensive to hear about "Chicken Little" and then very surprised to find that they got something right when they did "CL".

I was very impressed that UD managed to secure an interview with the Perpetually Smiley One.

I loved the way that he deftly avoided the question on Song of the South.

Outstanding stuff, and it is good to hear that there are no plans in the near future to discontinue the line.
