An article posted at <a href="http://www.imdb.com/news/sb/2005-11-07/#2">IMDB</a> indicates that American Dog has been put back to 2008 and Rapunzel has been shoved into 2009. This means there will be NO Disney feature in 2007!

Whilst the news is sad, at least it means both AD and R:U will have an extra year spent on them, so hopefully that's a good sign.

How far away does 2008 and 2009 seem. It's not the end of the world though, at least they ARE coming out.

lol yeah probably, i'll be 21 in 2009, it's mad! and i thought June 2006 was ages away . Hopefully though, they'll be worth the wait .

Pixar's Cars is due out June 9 2006 and according to UD's Coming Soon Page Meet the Robinsons is due out late 2006.

The Wild also seems to be slated for April 14, 2006; but I haven't heard much about that.

Hopefully this pushback will mean they're retooling the story for Rapunzel. The premise sounds good (two romance-impaired teenagers moved to fairy tale times), but if it turns out to be a Shrek-wannabe in terms of contemporary adult humor, it'll fail.

Disney should try and revive the fairy tale with Rapunzel, instead of trying to imitate another movie.

I knew Rapunzel had major problems and was being retooled but this is news for American Dog.

This really is not good news, Chicken Little is not supposed to be good(despite good box office).

There are rumours that this may not be because of story problems but because of Disney's willingless to show Pixar they are willing to agree to Pixar's terms (which are completely unreasonable and if Disney accepts the terms Pixar wants they are stupid!) for Pixar to be able to call when they want a film released and they would naturally want a 2007 slot for their rat film.

ichabod - that is not unreasonable. They are the established entity. Why would they go into business with somebody who was going to compete with them head on? Now granted, their has to be some give and take in these matters but the two entities do not want to compete against each other and Pixar has had its timetable longer and quite frankly they are able to deliver the better product quicker than Disney at this time.

I think this is fantastic news. 2006/2007 is packed with lame CGI animated features. Every possible studio out there has jumped on the CG bandwagon. Most of them will Probaply be Shrek wannabe's and suffer from bad storytelling etc. Around 2007 we'll be left with a major CGI overload-hangover.. If Disney can provide the audience with a return to good visual storytelling with Rapunzel, that would really mark a turn for the company.

And with Chicken Little opening to over $40 million and international Box Office numbers suggesting the film will be a huge hit overseas, a big pressure has been taken off Walt Disney Feature Animation. Imagine if Chicken Little underperformed, that would have been disastrous. They can now finally get back to making movies again without people pointing out Chicken Little's failure etc etc.

Just my take on this announcement.

I agree completely with Mr. Toad. Pixar knows they have the upper hand and that Disney will most likely comply. Pixar is only doing the reasonable thing by setting up their demands to suit themselves. Right now, they are releasing the most successful (critical and commerical) animated films at the moment. They are entitled to do what they want. The percieved critical failure of Chicken Little disturbs me, because they can only mean huge drops in the upcoming weeks. Hopefully, that won't be the case (there are usually one or two exceptions to that rule), so I hope Disney will use their times wisely and clean up whatever they need to clean up.

Think about it, from here to 209 they might be many new and great ideas to make this two movies something a real Disney movie

Ice Age 2 (Fox/Blue Sky)
Over the Hedge (Dreamworks)
The Wild (Disney/CORE)
Cars (Disney/Pixar)
The Ant Bully (Warner)
Flushed Away (Dreamworks/Aardman)
Open Season (Sony)
Meet the Robinsons (Disney)

I love CGI films as much as the next person, but how many ant movies do we need?

Wow and Toy Story 3 also in 2008. Disney has 3 coming out in 2006 so I wouldn't mind one being pushed back until 2007. I'd rather have a year with onely one than a year with three and then none the next year.

I have to agree with Patrick on this one, however I can imagine the CGI hangover going well into 2007; expect Dreaworks to issue 2 all new and all fun computer generated movies into cinemas...introducing The Frog Prince Plucked from the Pond and Canadian Dog!

I Will Deffinatley See Cars.. I love Pixar movies and this one sounds really promising.

Ice Age 2 Will also be a deffinate because I really enjoyed the first one.

Opean Season: It looks funny.. In my opinion it looks like shrek/brother bear combined so it shuld be funny.

The Ant Bully: Looks Like one of the most dumbest films ever made.. Instaed of the WB worrying about the ant bully they shoud focus more on a quicker release date for batman or harry potter... Or even a new looney tunes movie.

The Wild: I enjoyed Madagascar but this one looks boring imo.

Over The Hedge: Steve Carrels in it.. it cant be that bad
