Disney 80's or early 90's Space Miniseries

Greetings all. I had an old memory pop into my head and have been scouring the internet for information on this, and found this here website. Since you all seem to have some penchant for Disney shows, I figured someone here might know what I'm talking about.

When I was growing up, in the late 80's or early 90's, I saw a space adventure miniseries shown on Disney Sunday Night Movie hosted by Michael Eisner. The show, which I believe was split into two parts on consecutive Sundays, followed the adventures of a group of space explorers on their ship as they explored the galaxy. I only got to see the first half of this miniseries and have suddenly gotten the urge to see it in it's entirety.

The story of the first half I don't fully remember, but I do remember a couple things. One scene was where they were building some sort of projectile launcher in one of the airlocks on the ship, I think as some sort of defensive weapon. Something happened and I believe the captain was sucked out into outerspace, or at least a seemingly important character to the operation of the ship. And at the end of the first half part of the crew had gone down to a planet in response to a distress beacon when they were surrounded by an unknown group that seemed hostile. Then the series ended there with a "To be continued".

I know this all sounds very vague, but it's the best I can offer. I hope someone out there in cyberspace knows what I'm talking about, and if not maybe another person would know a direction in which to point me so I can find out what my great mystery miniseries is.

That's it! That's the one! I did a quick search on that and found someone who was looking for information on that as well, and they described a scene I remember from the movie now about how the girl wanted to buy some McDonalds food using her handprint but couldn't, so her friend helped her out. Thanks for the quick response. However, according to your link it's never been released. Guess I'll never get to see it then.

Glad to be of help and in less than an hour! Whenever certain pressing questions that can't easily be answered with an Internet search come up for me, I always just want to find a quick and satisfying answer. At least you got the first half, since as you note it's not officially available on home video.

Never say never. Disney's got lots of made-for-TV material that many are clamoring for. While this title doesn't get the amount of seemingly unheard requests that <i>Polly</i> and the <i>Boogedy</i> movies do, I doubt <i>The Christmas Star</i> (1986) did and it came to DVD without a US home video release. There's lots Disney can revisit and with their unreleased-on-DVD catalogue shrunk considerably, they should eventually turn efforts to their TV content. The handful of titles Disney has already chosen to release from pre-1997 Wonderful World of Disney material don't indicate any strong logic. So while a DVD release seems unlikely, it's not impossible!
