Why were Beauty & The Beast and The Lion King released in IMAX theaters but not the newer PE's? Did they not bring in a profit or something? I love the IMAX re-releases!

Yup! You answered your own question. Beauty and the Beast did well with approxemently 26 million at the IMAX.

The Lion King however made approxemently 16 million at the IMAX.

So because of the huge drop(especially considering The Lion King was Disney's #1 grossing animated film) Disney decided to stop all furthur IMAX releases!

IMAX prints use 8 times the film than regular 35mm ones and are probably 10-20x more expensive cus they are produced in low volumes.


Too bad cus when done laser scanned from the negative the 8 times better print can really showcase what's the quality of the originally photographed image with the low inherent grain of the negative's fine grained emulsion
