Disneyland vs Disney World

Hey everyone!!!

Just thought I'd round up some opinion's!

I planned a 2 week stay in Orlando end of January and am getting excited already! It's been a long time since going to disneyworld. In fact, I don't recall much of the park itself. I was last there in 1983. I'm 30 now sooooo I must have been about 8 or 9 years old. I do remember they had just finished epcot. I recall riding inside that metal ball that had the bearded guy with the dragon. I remember seaworld! That was the year of Jaws 3 in 3-D. The whole park was redone. They had just opened those underwater tunnels that are in the movie. But for some reason I dont remember much of The Magic Kinkdom??? I think my problem is that I've been to Disneyland in Cali way too many times and that it's flooded my brain. Anyway, I've been to Disneyworlds website looking at their attractions. I didn't know they were missing so many! Disneyworld only has two out of the four mountains? No Matterhorn, No Thundermountain? Also, No Indiana Temple or Mr. Toad? These are all some of my favorite rides :cry. Thank god they have Splash Mountain! It was being refurbished earlier in the year at Disneyland :( . Also I can't wait to ride the new Spacemountain! I haven't heard much about what was done to it? Overall I'm really excited about the trip! I'm just upset they don't have all the rides. One thing Disneyland didn't have was Mickeys PhilharMagic. That looks cool!!! One thing about Orlando though, I know there's alot to do outside Disneyworld. Anyway, l just thought I'd get some insight on your thoughts and experence's? I'm sure after 22 years Disneyworld has come along ways. I don't know what to expect? We're going the last two weeks of January. I hope that's a good time to visit? Good weather, short lines, (Hopefully).

Give me your opinion!

Disneyland or Disneyworld???

Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom has 3 mountains, Splash and Big Thunder in Frontierland, and Space in Tomorrowland.
DEREKG wrote: Also, No Indiana Temple or Mr. Toad?
Nope, unfortunately. Indy Jones would be perfect at WDW's MK, especially in Adventureland (that place is in need of a spruce up). And MK's Mr. Toad, vastly superior to the DLR original (TWO TRACKS!), was replaced with the light-and-fluffy-but-still-amusing The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh.

Philhar is wicked. I highly recommend it. Fastpass it, and definitely do it more than once during your visit.
DEREKG wrote:I'm sure after 22 years Disneyworld has come along ways. I don't know what to expect?
Expect a lot of walking. Magic Kingdom, while it looks like Disneyland, is like, enlarged 10 times or so. And EPCOT seems like a small park, but if you were to walk from the Entrance to around the world showcase, then back again, without stopping anywhere, it'll take a good 30 minutes or so. MGM is rather hard to navigate through, so you'll be doubling back almost all the time. And I haven't been to Animal Kingdom enough times to comment on getting around.

Also, check out Downtown Disney, especially the Marketplace. EAT AT EARL OF SANDWICH!

January's generally a good time to visit. danamichelle is going the first week, after the Christmas crowd. When I first started there, it was the 24th of January, and the crowds were pretty light.

Bias here, but I'd go for Walt Disney World, simply because I've been there more.

Hmm lets see. Disneyworld has the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, MGM studios, and is one of the biggest parks in the world. I prefer disneyworld because it has so much more 8)

Comparing the Disneyland Resort to the Walt Disney World resort is so UNFAIR because Walt Disney World is much bigger than the Disneyland resort!

However you seem to compareMagic Kingdom to Disneyland so I assume it's Magic Kingdom or Disneyland. (Does anyone get annoyed when they call Magic Kingdom, "Disney World"?)

Personally, I love Disneyland much more than Magic Kingdom. I just went to Disneyland in July for the 50th Anniversary, all I could say was, "Disneyland is back and better than ever"! :D It helped that Paul Pressler left!

Anyway Matterhorn is not a huge loss IMO, (the ride is WAY too bumpy) but Indiana Jones and Mr. Toad, 2 of my favorite rides at DL, aren't at Magic Kingdom! :( However Big Thunder Mountain is at Magic Kingdom so you don't have to worry about that. In fact it's better than the one at Disneyland! Same goes with Splash Mountain! :D However the "Pirates of The Caribbean" is an imposter from the one at Disneyland and Haunted Mansion's effects aren't as good as the one in California either.

So all in all Magic Kingdom is still fun, but Disneyland is a much better park IMO! :)

To quote myself,
Me, in my Advice thread wrote:The park with Main Street, Tomorrowland, Mickey's Toontown Fair, Fantasyland, Liberty Square, Frontierland, and Adventureland is known as MAGIC KINGDOM. This is the park with all the rides and with It's A Small World. Magic Kingdom. Let's all say it now: MAGIC KINGDOM. "Walt Disney World" and "Disney World" refers to the whole property. You know, the other parks, the hotels, the shops, and all the unused area for future parks and hotels and shops. The castle is Cinderella's Castle. The nighttime parade is no longer "The Main Street Electrical Parade", but "Spectromagic". It's not "Peoplemover" anymore, but "Tomorrowland Transit Authority".
Anyways, I picked WDW simply because I'm more attached there than I am to DLR. But I agree, DLR is vastly superior in many ways to MK. For one thing, it's a close intimate park, whereas MK it'll take you ten minutes to get from Adventureland to Fantasyland. And park quality versus park quantity is in DLR's favor. Sure, it's just two parks (one great, one subpar), but Disneyland has the heart, while Magic Kingdom is just...a fun park.

If/when I ever do go to DLR again, I'll probably spend a week there, even though most of it can be done within like two days.

I prefer Disneyworld. It holds a lot of special memories for me. When I was young, my parents took me there 4 times, I got engaged there and I went on my 1st and 2nd Honeymoon there. I will explain the Honeymoons : the 1st was in August/September and Hurricane Francis ran us out a couple days early so we went back to finish our honeymoon in January. Now, we are going again this January. I can't wait.

Hmm...do I want four Disney parks all rolled into one (Magic Kingdom, Epcot, The Disney Studios, Disney's Animal Kingdom), plus two water parks (Blizzard Beach, Typhoon Lagoon) [and if you want to include the Downtown Disney shopping paloozaa, but, it's also located in Disneyland)..YES!!

Walt Disney World is my favorite location in the entire universe, and I had the best time of my life there.

Plus..Disney Studios has a 10x better Tower of Terror :D !!!

I have been to Disney World many times and enjoy it, but I am going to Disney Land in 3 weeks and then I can compare them, For the most part they have the same rides. Including Tower of Terror. I am looking forward to California Screamin' at California adventure, and Grizzly River Run, Matterhorn and Space Mountain at Disneyland.

I think Disneyland Park is the single best of the 11 Disney parks because it just has the most to offer in terms of the amount of attractions and shows. It's awesome and Walt's classic. Magic Kingdom is hardly 10 times bigger, it's about 20 acres bigger, and that's mostly for the wide walkways because it felt so empty with the considerably less attractions (34, I think vs Disneyland's 57). And also, Remember...Dreams Come True blows Wishes right out of the water! :D

As a Resort, I used to say that Walt Disney World Resort was the place to go for a week long vacation. But I have since been to Tokyo Disney Resort (which, frankly is better than WDW, IMO) and Disneyland Resort Paris, and a week at each was bliss because there was no rushing to get everything done. I know this to be the same for tourists coming to Disneyland Resort, based on so much Guest feedback that I hear almost daily. Can't say that about WDW.

That aside, it still is one of the best Disney Destinations. Not the best in my book, but still it's great!

I've never been to Disneyland, but I have been to Disney World a few times.

Last time I went was in 1997 as part of a marching band field trip. We went to the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and then visited Univeral Studios the last day.

Had a great trip, but marching in a parade at Epcot during the day wearing a band uniform with my Tenor Sax got pretty hot. Still it was a blast.

Before that I hadn't been since I was 7. I really want to go back.

I prefer Disneyland. Disneyworld does have its points - loved Animal Kingdom and Philharmagic. Didnt really enjoy Epcot and MGM. A lot of the rides and attractions - Haunted Mansion, Pirates of Caribbean, Fantasmic are really second rate versions.

Don't know how to explain it but Disneyland is just more intimate. A lot shorter walk between rides for sure.

But a trip to either is great.

Disneyland!!!!

1) I am moving back to Cali in April. :) :) :) :) :) :)
2) My wife was a castmember at Disneyland. (I was a lowly Knotts Berry Farm employee.)
3) I have been there more.

Disneyland vs Magic Kingdom? Hands down Disneyland. Has much more to offer, and seems to have a better atmosphere.

Well, DisneyFan, the question is Disneyland vs. Walt Disney World, not just Magic Kingdom.
