I would love to see this title get some real treatment. Don Bluth desirves better. The dvd out now, both of them, are very poor quality for a movie with so many different colors. Personally this is one of my favorite cartoons ever made. A new transfer would be grand. I hope in the next few years they give this cartoon the respect it deserves! :x

Give this title the royal treatment or
(GO TO THE RATS).

Don Bluth should try to get a Special Edition line going for all his movies, even though the movie are under different companies.

I really hope they release special editions of all of his films, pretty much all of his movies look like crap on DVD and are all in pan & scam.

Don Bluth. What an interesting enigma. How can the man who produced the Secret of Nimh and An American Tail also produce the Pebble and the Penguin and a Troll in Central Park? While I too am waiting for a good copy of Secret, I'd love to Banjo the Woodpile Cat just released on DVD. This was one of my favorite cartoons as a child.

You got me excited as I thought an announcement of a NIMH SE had been made. A ? in the subject line of the initial post would have been helpful. I am also in favor of OAR SEs of all of Bluth's classics.

Wish granted. ;) I changed the thread title a teensy bit to be more specific (and less of a false alarm...).

I was wondering?

Is there a current petition running for a remastered Secret of Nimh dvd???

I would have to think Bluth would like to put one in the works at some point!!!

I love Nimh. It's one of my favs!!!

It deserves a better transfer!

Maybe even a 2-disc set.

What do you think the chances are of one being released???

Why would they release the region 2 in WS and region 1 in FS???

Anyway, it's time for a remastered version.

What's Bluth up to these days?

To my knowledge there is no widescreen version because it wasn't made in the widescreen format. So, that R2 version is actually incorrect and is cutting off the top and bottom...so you actually see less than you're supposed to rather than the other way around. That was stated a while back on Bluth's website...someone sent in a question regarding NIMH in widescreen.

As for a new release, I think it needs some special features as this was done by an independent (Bluth was pretty much on his own at this time) film studio so it must've been a greater challenge. A remastering of the picture would be nice too since any blues look really grainy on the current dvd.

Well, that's cool! I hope it'll be a good one, and not just a kid-centered one with stupid games and such.
I also hope this means we might get a re-release of Thumbelina and (dare I say it) Rock-A-Doodle.

HD Secret of Nimh coming soon!!!

Looky, Looky,

Reply: David, Thank you for writing. Actually, we just completed a re-mastering of the film for a new DVD which will be coming out next year. If all goes according to the marketing plan, it will feature an HDTV 16X9 version, a 1:1.85 letterbox version and a full screen version. It will have all the minutia, including negative dirt and scratches removed. We are doing a producer/director's commentary and on camera interviews for the "extras" in about two weeks. When we know the release date of , we will post it on the homepage of this site. Right now, we believe it will be in March or April. The new master looks beautiful! MGM/UA is releasing it thru 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. Regards.

For a second, I was afraid it was being released in 2008 since Bluth said "next year". Then I saw this was from the tail end of 2006, so that means it's coming in March or April of this year! Woohoo!

Now, then, Mr. Bluth, if you could be so kind as to work on a proper widescreen release of An American Tail, I'll kiss your feet.

I haven't seen SoN in such a long time! I remember it scared me when I was little, but I don't remember why. I've been looking for the DVD for some time now, but couldn't find it. A SE release is really good news ^^
One question, though. How are they going to put an HDTV-version on a normal-definition DVD?
